Cluff president of the Provo city council is suffering seriously with enlargement of the spleen. His case is said to be growing worse daily. -&t the special session of the city council held yesterday afternoon, there was present Mayor Holbrook, Councilors Counci-lors Glazier, Knudsen, Ward, Halla-day, Halla-day, Ross, Hoover and McEwan. Judge Dusenberry was there, also Mayor Hall of Springville and Marshal Knight. Glazier was called to the chair and McEwan filled the recorder's Beat, theee two officers being absent. The mayor tp)ke of the great importance import-ance of the trans-Mississippi congress to the west and urged that Provo city have one man there representing the municipality. Undoubtedly there would be several Provo citizens present, he himself hoped to be able to attend. The question of the expense wbb discussed. dis-cussed. The fare would be $49.50 and the other necessary outlays would bring the whole expense up to $100.00 not to consider tbe value of the delegate's dele-gate's time. Few men there are who can well stand the outlay, and the mayor was of the opinion that the council would be justified in appropri-ing appropri-ing $100 00 to pay the expenBta of .a delegate whom he should ap point by and with the consent of the council. Judge Dusenberry was asked to speak. He dwelt upon the probable prob-able benefits to be derived from the congress, saying that eastern capital was looking westward and that this congress would help bring it here. In the way of investment in new railroads, for instance, Provo would be tbe first city benefitted, for it is beyond a ques tion of a doubt tl at the first new railroad rail-road built in Utah will run up Provo canyon. Remonetizati. n of silver, the changing of the mining laws and many other subjects which the congress will consider and memorialize the national congress at Washington upon, were spoken of by tbe judge. He had been of the opinion tbat the council was to appoint the. delegate, if that were p.o he would nominate the mayor himself as the delegate. The mayor objected, but the council would not hear his objection. ob-jection. After considerable diecussion the sum of $100 00 was appropriated and the mayor appointed as the delegate. dele-gate. There was not one dissenting yote. It is expected that It. A.
