Show The Salt Lake papers this morning report a most sad eccurrence indeed. Clara Karens, the 16-year-old dau?hter of City Marshal Karens of Lehi left her home last summer, it is said, because be-cause of ill-treatment, She got employment employ-ment as a houpe-maid fir3t, then went to work at the Templeton hotel, leaving leav-ing the employ of the Templeton Wednesday, she went to Mrs. Moffav's, her old employer, to see if a leiter was waiting her there from home. On the way back from Sixth South street the young girl innocently passed through Franklin avenue, and fearing she had lost her way she inquired of an old wretch standing ia the doorway of one of the dens it eho was near Second South street. The unsophisticated girl was lured into the den under the promise that work would be found for her. The shades of night coming on the Lehi girl was induced to remain for the night, little suspecting that she would fall into the rrp that was being Bet tor her. Shortly two men were introduced to the young girl and subsequent actions, on the part of Lynch and another man whom the police hav not yet apprehended, appre-hended, resulting in her ruin, despite her protestations, entreaties and smothered anneals tor help. The inmates in-mates of the den kept their victim an unwilling prieoner. but the sleuths ascertained what had been done, and at about 4:30 yesterday morning raidfd the den. of infamy. The two women and Lynch were bcoked on the charge of procuring for the dui-p' dui-p' ses of prostituion and kindred offenses, of-fenses, and lodged in jail pending arraignment. |
