Show COUNCIL OF DEFENSE MEET iet last evening a meeting of the box elder county council of defense was held in the commercial club rooms tor for the purpose of receiving instructions relative to the activities of 0 the council from a member of the state council of defense present were W C ebaugh secretary of the state council and mayor T S browning of ogden who is also a member of 0 the executive committee of the state council of the local county council there were present chairman wynn L eddy secretary W J lowe john D peters II 11 L fishburn M victor E madsen david 0 stohl david holmgren holm ren and jolin john P Ho holmgren lingren dr ebaugh was given the time and in a very comprehensive manner he outlined the work accomplished by fie cie state council of defense during the past year before beginning on this report I 1 however lie he explained how the organization bation was effected and for why the movement had its beginning in the appointment of the national naval consults Consul consulting ti g board appointed by president wilson for the purpose of working out problems which confronted the administration and the nation with such startling rapidity at the beginning 21 ing of the lie war that board was later disorganized and the national council of defense was given life which in turn effected the organization of state councils of defense which in turn organized county councils and now it is proposed to carry the work right into the schools as the last unit of at the organization so that a means will have been provided tor for linking up every activity from the schools right on up thru the counties and states to the head of government at washington the purpose of the organization is to work out the details of the various movements inaugurated at washington as necessary to equip the nation to successfully cess fully carry on the war A few of the activities are liberty loran loan campaigns war savings thrift stamp campaigns soldiers welfare work farm labor with its at crop production the conservation of food and fuel the matter of state defense from alien enemies and the running to earth of spies the work of giving assistance to the families of married men who have enlisted and who need help and numerous other activities all of which are absolutely essential and must be taken care of it if this nation wins out in its struggle tor for freedom both dr ebaugh and mayor browning spoke very impressively upon the seriousness of the present situa situation tian and the urgent need of every american citizen sensing the responsibility that tests rests upon him to the extent that lie he be impelled to get right in and support every movement no matter what the personal sacrifice might be the tae meeting attained 11 its s purpose in in that every member of the local council went away from it with a clear understanding I 1 I der standing of nh what hat is expected of at lit him in and a a determination to buckle into th the e work and discharge the responsibility resting upon him |
