Mr. Lewis, the elder, has suffered for years with a stomach tronble. lie came to Utah last summer sum-mer for his health, visiting for some months with Johnny here in Provo. While here he improved cicely and great hopes have been entertained of late that he would live to enjoy a loi g and useful career yet, as he is not an elderly man, being but 57 years of age. Earl arrived from Provo, overland, over-land, on Friday, and the next morning left tor Warm Creek v here he has a ranch. It is expected that actual construction work will begin ' right away after Christmas, at least early in the new year. One of the colonists recently located in Millard county writes to the Blade as follows : "Futy-seven persons are here, and eighteen stopped at Grand Junction on account of sickness, but will come on later. Some are pleased with the outlook and expect to build homes, others are undecided. The colonists are mostly from Kansas. A few are from California. Land has been selected north, of David Crafts. Crops will be planted the coming season and should the effort be successful, a greater number of settlers will come in the future. The people from Kansas have lost their crops for two seasons on account of drouth and are anxious to try farming with irrigation. We ha ye named our colony Sterling, and truet they will put forth with a sterling effort ef-fort to build hoineB and reclaim a portion por-tion of this beautiful valley from the Bterility of the desert." Pratt attained his fiftieth mile stone yestarday having been i?orn in the city of Mavoo, Illinois Illi-nois on December 7, 1844. The anniversary anni-versary of the event was duly celebrated cele-brated at their residence In this city laut evening, and a goodly number of his relatives and friends gathered and partook of a generous and well prepared pre-pared dinner gotten up by Mrs. Pratt. Many congratulations were extended the husband. The evening was pleasantly pleas-antly spent with the happy family. Letters of congratulation were received from their absent children and a general gen-eral time of rejoicing was had.
