Show Kicked Out. It has heretofore been customary for school trustees and principals of Utah county to meet prior to time of beginning begin-ning Bchool each year for the purpose of arranging a county school circular. Accordingly a call was made by proper pro-per authority for a meeting to be held ih Provo Saturday, July 27th. Both factions were fairly well represented re-presented at the meeting, and all went smoothly until a number of the trustees suddenly remembered that they were the officers that had been clothed with authority to make all arrangements and provisions necessary, and in doing bo they needed no assistance from any district school nrincinal. To say the teachers were surprised is not enough, tney were indignant, having come by special invitation on considerable expense of money and time, to assist in making provisions for the well are of the schools of Utah county, when they were given to understand un-derstand they were not needed and even looked upon by some as intruding in the assembly. The act was certainly most discourteous discour-teous to say the least, and showed considerable con-siderable more oce egotism than down right interest in educational matters. The principals know when they an treated unfairly and fully sense tbe predicament into which they were placed. They do not wish to assume any daties that do not pertain or form part of their calling, however bein? especially interested in the cause of education, having duties to perform that bv their very nature should bring a condition of harmony and unity witb the trustees, they think the action taken was discourteous, as well as det-limental det-limental to educational improvement. It is to be noted thai none ot the actions taken are binding on any person per-son or persons, hence the greater surprise. sur-prise. It is to be hoped that future consideration consid-eration may change the motive aDd effect new results. The motion in question was passed by a very Bmall majority. Observed. |
