Show ! CATTLE MEN AROUSED. Armed Men "Will Go to the Henry MountainsUtah Moun-tainsUtah Stock Being: Stolen Texas, New Mexico and Arizona Furnish the Thieves. The Salt Lake Ilerald this morning says that from reportB received from Nephi yesterday, lively timeBmay be expected in the vicinity of the Henry mountains very shortly. For some days email bands of men from Arizona, New Mexico and as far south as Texas, have been engaged in riding over the range stealing cattle, horses and mules and wantonly killing fine beef cattle. Fifty head of horses and mules are reported as having been tasen from one ranch in a single night. The thieves apparently work in relays, the first driving the stock to the southern Utah line, where they are taken by another cruwd and hurried on. Inasmuch as all tbe stock in southern Utah is in prime condition, tbe country is a very desirable one for cattle thieves. A epecies of wanton slaughter is being be-ing indulged in which is reprehensible in the extreme. Fine stock is shot down and, after the loin and other fancy pieces are removed the carcass is left to rot. It is said that dozens of head have been found which have been treatedin this Jway. Georgs C. Whit-more, Whit-more, of Nephi, is lutcriieterV's ranches in that region, and, together ith other citizens ot the place and Mona, is or-ganizing or-ganizing an armed band to go down and drive the desperadoes out. Serious trouble may result as the men from the south are all bad characters and may be "on the shoot." The Utonians are equally determined and will resist aoy encroachments by the southern thieves. These raids are made periodically md this is but a repetition of-what has occurred several times before. This time, however, vigorous measures will be adopted. |
