Show -"' - r'MTii anwrii I'f irf " X i if" Vnri-" The following excerpt from the Grand Junction News, a staunch republican re-publican paper with which we have had many a political and professional tilt, ia in strong contrast with the course of a local as well as a certain Grand Junction cotemporary: "Col. John L. Bartow and wife, now of the I'rovo Dispatch , but formerly proprietor proprie-tor of the Grand' Junction Star, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Benton Cannon on last Saturday. As usual, the colonel col-onel appeared happy and prosperous, and judging from the advertising columns col-umns of The Dispatch, he must; be doing very well indeed. He still lias great expectations for Grand Junction and Grand Valley and is well content to hold his property interests here." At a meeting of the executive committee com-mittee of the U. C. T. A held in this city on Saturday last, it wrb decided to hold the commencement day exerches for ail the schools in ihe county, awarding certincAtea. etc., in this city on Friday. June 8th. The higher grades of the Provo city schools will join with the schools of the county. There will be forty graduates from the county schools and twenty from the c ty schools. Eacli district will supply one or more numbers of the program which assures it in advance to be an exceptionally excep-tionally interesting one. E. A. Wilson of this city will deliver the addrea3 o the students, and efforts are to be made to secure the attendance of Governor Gov-ernor West upon the exercises. It is wonderful the changed tone of the Provo wealer sympatnizers, aiderB and abbettors, since the finding of the indictments against five of their number. num-ber. It is almost impossible now to find one man who admits that he was on the grounds near the depot on May 12th, during the trouble, and those who do admit being there on that day say that they never said or did anything that would even tend to incite riot and deny that they heard anyone say or do anything ou: ot the way. The men who are indicted now say that they were anxious to see the wealers get out of our city and were mad at Superintendent Superin-tendent Welby for stopping them. They did not oppose the officers at all. They are now highly ia praise of what waa done by them and say that they did their duty that day bravely, fear lessly and well. The whole populace is beginning to get the scales of prejudice prej-udice lifted from iheir eyes and to see and realize that our peace officers that day acted wisely and would have ben censurable had they acted otherwiee. The Eaquirer, however, still looks through its spectacles which are darkened with the smoke of partisan prejudices. Undoubtedly Un-doubtedly it will this very evening call our officers cowards. Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder World's Fair Highest Medal and Diploma. E, E. Harris, the aeronaut who has been operating in the towns to the Bouth with headquarters at Provo, will make a grand balloon ascension and parachute jump at Casteila Springs on June ltith, the opening day.jMr. Harris and Logan Paul " of this city have formed a business partnership and balloon bal-loon ascensions will be of frequent occurrence oc-currence at the spriDgs this summer. They may enter into a contract and conduct the resort this season. Chas. Hedquist of the Smoot Drug company and Dr. J. N. Christensen have been arrested for riding bicycles on the Bidewalks contrary to ordinance. ordin-ance. They appear before Justice Wedgwood this evening. |
