Show Attempted Suicide.. Prof. Stiehl, a resident of Provo, attempted at-tempted to commit suicide at Ogden last night by taking morphine. He had a large shorthand class in Salt Lake at one time, but his drink in; habits were such that he had to give his profession up for want of patron-acre, patron-acre, lie then concluded to. come to Oiiden, and on reaching that city pro ceeded to imbibe freely from the l'ow-ine l'ow-ine bowl. For a week be has been well under the "influence," and the other day wrote his wife that she would never see him again. As soon as she received the letter she jumped oh the next train and reached Oden last niuht. Mr. Stiehl had taken a dose of morphine mor-phine in the evening, and while walking walk-ing along Grant Avenue was about to fall into a deep sleep. As was passing pass-ing the residence of Mr. 'inith. rear Twenty-flfth street, that gentleman thought Stiehl was drunk and took him into a room where he fell asleep. Stiehl was arout-ed alter corsi.ierablf effort and taken to the Broom hotel, where his wife was waiting his appearance. Though out of danger he js sleeping considerable to-dav. She will take him home with her, and it is to be hoped that he will bnvee up and be a man. lie is well qualified for business purposes pur-poses if he would let strong drink alone. Union. |
