Mr. Rawlins went to the department of justice this morning to inquire into the charges that had been made aamst Utah by United States officials, and found that the appropriations made by congress to run the courts and the marshal's office had been charged up against the territory for a number of vears, amounting to about $1,000,-000, $1,000,-000, all of whicn is clearly wrong and he so informed the attornev-gen-v.-ra!. The matter is being carefully investigated, aud the secretary of the treasury will soon make a report, to congress Rawlins' bill for the admission of Utah provides against these old claims being held against Utah. The senate territories committee will hold a meeting on Saturday to consider con-sider the statehood bill. The situation is very encouraging. The bill of Mr. Rawlins in regard to extending the limit of Salt Lake's indebtedness, in-debtedness, which passed the house yestciday, will soon be disposed of in the senate. Washington, Jan. 18.
