Notes Already there is deep interest manifested mani-fested everywhere throughout the territory ter-ritory in the comine summer school to convene in the 13. Y. academy building, build-ing, this city, on July 9th. From a selfish self-ish and a material point of view,this is good news to residents of Proyo, for a isix weeks' sojourn of more than five hundred teachers here means a eood many dollars of new money spent in the city. The itslluence for good of the visit of the teachers will also be appreciated. The following set of questions have beeu sent out to all county (superintendents, (superin-tendents, and upon the answeis will be based some important features of the work of the summer school. 1 What, in vour opinion, are the characteiistiC3 cf a good teacher? 2 Which do you regard as the more essential features of a good teacher, professional ability, or academic information? in-formation? . , 3 Wherein are the teacuers 01 your county deficient'!1 4 What per cent, of the teachers in your county do you consider good 5 What per cent, are disciplinarian disciplin-arian 8? 6ln what branches are the teachers in your county deficient? 7In wbat branches are they proficient? pro-ficient? Utah most need in your opinion? Even a casual glance at the foregoing forego-ing will give all persons an idea how-broad how-broad and how deep, how simple and how practical are the foundations being be-ing laid under the structure of our common schools. B. Y. A. NOTES. This institution is in its eighteenth academic year. It has supplied more teachers for tie district schools than any other institution institu-tion in the territory. Its enrollment last year was 1,219, an actual attendance thus far thiB year ia 79S, exclusive of the kindergarten. It has a faculty of twenty -nine regular reg-ular teachers, and six special lecturers. In its scnool are students from every county in the territory, and from Colo rado, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Ari-zona, Mexico and Canada. It has" given thousands of loll-irs worth of gratuitous teaching to the young people of this territory through its M. I. A. and Sunday school mrmal classes. The commercial college will be continued con-tinued through the entire vacation. Greek and I.tin can be had by those who desire at the summer school. |
