Show There is grace in the Tribune after all. It eays frankly that it is in favor of the income tax. That goes farther than we ever expected that paper to go. Of course there are corporation lawyers and advocates in congress both bouses but there are also able, de- j voted and brave men enough there to pass the measure oyer their heads. We are sorrj for the coming worry of the Tribune when the vote is taken, because be-cause it will find every man of these lawyers and corporation champions voting against the measure, all republicans, repub-licans, belonging to and working for the republican party, If the Trib. is honest in its declaration it must howl so loudly as that its plaint will reach the capacious ears of congress. The Enquirer boasts that it is now staggering along with its fifteenth libel suit. We put it on record, or it may deny, after a few days that it did boast. What a chronologist it is anyhow. any-how. It once boasted that it had run six managements off The Dispatch and in a few days it denied having said so? One needs to watch this blessed Enquirer for its denial ma chine is never out of order. However, it seems to take the situation with commendable philosophy. Twenty-five Twenty-five thousand dollars a goodisb sum of money is, to the Enquirer, a mere bagatelle. Uncle Sam wants a new public printer. We do not intend to enter the race because we are not just in case to undertake the job. We are compelled to refer the matter to our . neighbor, who would probably tackle it were it not adder a democratic administration. That dose aiministered Thursday to the democracy in Salt Lake hath a rather undue admixture of bitterness in it. Bitter medicine Is said to be wholesome, r however. By this rule the democracy ought to be made whole by one other struggle. The death of Judge Blackburn yesterday yes-terday morning proved to be a shock to this community of no ordinary character. char-acter. The troubled brain rests, the tired band is still. Sleep the memory of his faults, and let the memory of his virtues be kept green forever. The Tribune places the defeat of democracy de-mocracy to the attitude of the administration adminis-tration on the tariff question. The tariff had nothing whatever to do with It. However, the silver question is chargeable with the majority in Salt Lake. The national democratic party must do something for the western or silver stales, or expect continuous and unrelieved un-relieved defeat. The work should commence at Washington and at once, pr yery soon it will be too late. Victory doesn't always perch upon the banners of the righteous,as witness Thursday's election in Salt Lake. Colorado grows more and more anxious day by day, to be rid of her rediculous governor. Me. Clevelakd will have to relax on his silver policy; there is just nothing noth-ing else to be done. Thursday was a cold day in Salt Lake for the local democracy. |
