To the Editor of The Evening Dis patch: Last Tuesday evening a meeting was held in the Rees school room under the auspices of the High School Normal class, for the purpose of showing their respect and bidding godspeed the president, presi-dent, Heber C. Jex, and fellow laborer, Lee Bradford, who shortly leave ua for a three years mission to Australia. The puhlic were invited and soon after the doors were open it became evident that the room would be far inadequate to accommodate the vast crowd that tourned out, the room, was packed and the entrances jammed full. The following fol-lowing program was very promptly and entertainingly rendered: Singing by the Normal Class choir. Prayer by Lee Bradford. Speech by President Heber C. Jex. Singing by choir. Benediction by Patriarch. G. W. Brimhall. Then all dispersed feeling that they had indeed received an intellectual least. The mere announcement that the Normal class will give a public entertainment enter-tainment is quite sufficient to secure a crowded house. This Normal class has been a grand success in the past, and in the future is destined to be a potent factor in raising the educational Btatus of Spanish Fork. Great honor is due Prof. Rees for his untiring efforts ef-forts to assist the young people in developing de-veloping their faculties, and unfolding into grand and ideal men and women. Would the tax payers who at the last two meetings voted no tax, attend a tew ot our educational meetings or visit our schools for but a short time, they would no longer yote "no tax," but impart freely of their means, and build an adequate central school building build-ing wherein the educational activity would not be cramped but would have full sway to reach that height which Spanish Fork is destined yet to occupy. oc-cupy. The second term of school is drawing to an end. This is the last week, and examination is being held in each school to which the public are invited. The trustees have been visiting the schools, and speak in high terms of the standing of each and the improvements made since their last visit. On Tuesday Prof. Rees and his school visited the B. Y. academy at Provo and were well pleased with the courteous treatment they receiyed and the excellent w ork they beheld. Jasber Spanish Fork, January 24, 1894. |
