Show THE REPUBLICAN SILOW-W1NDOW. In the show window of republican headquaiters, this city, are several well executed crayon drawings. One of the subjects represents Utah as a woman in flowing robee, her right arm and Quger8 pointing to the sun of ''protection ''pro-tection posperity" which shines in the zenith; while her left hand supports the back part of her aching head, Her face is the embodiment of abject misery, and no wonder; a woman with winga representing the republican party and protection, is holding wretched Utah in a close embrace. Republicus has her right arm around Utah's extrem itles while her left is pressed on an appropriate ap-propriate part of Utah's body while she is being "boosted" still higher into the blessed sunshiue oE republcan "prosperity." At about the place where the "boosting" hand of Ropubli-cus Ropubli-cus rests, the formB of Utah and Republicus Re-publicus seem to merge into one and the same personality, while from under Utah's robe protrude a pair of well-executed bare feet. The form of Republicus Repub-licus then gently breaks away ano ends in a graceful volute startlmgly resembling tne tail of a serpent. Had Republicus been represented as a boa constrictor it would have been most appropriate. The picture reminds the pasSers-by of the scene in the garden of Eden when the devil, in the form of a sepent, tempted Eve, and in that respect re-spect is also not inappropriate. The picture is making democratic voters every day, and the territorial democratic committee Bhould get permission per-mission to photograph it and distribute copies as campaign literature. If fair Utah looks that way after one republi can victor, what in the name of heayen will she look like after a few years of republican supremacy? The Dispatch specially invites the residents of Provo and all visitors to inspect the pictures and vote your sentiments. |
