Show The Dispatch heartily endorses the following manly remarks from our valued exchange, the Salt Lake Even-inmg Even-inmg Telegram (republican.) That the Salt Lake Tribune now the unofficial organ ot the Mormon church is, in the main, responsible lor the affair af-fair ,and for the suspicion that is gaining gain-ing in the mindB ot honest men of both parties, that church influence has been uEed againBt tl e democrats, has been proven beyond question. But the Mormon church, or tne republican party, as a body, are or have been parties par-ties to the nelarious scheme is false. The republican party neither asks nor desires, the aid or influence oftheMormom church, or any other church. The republican party placed m the position ot the democratic paily in this matter, would haye done exactly ex-actly as the democratic party has done, and it would have expected and received re-ceived the support and sympathy of every fair-minded democrat in Utah. The crisis has been met, however, and the vexed question of church interference in-terference m politics may fairly be considered con-sidered settled. It has not, howeyer, been settled by the democratic party alone, but bv the manhood and womanhood woman-hood of Utah, irrespective ot party, creed or color. And this fact it would be well for the Tribune and certain individuals to remember. The only error in the above is, that "the vexed question" has not yet been settled, but we believe "the manhood and womanhood of Utah, irrespective of party," will settle this vexed question ques-tion on November 5tb. |
