Adults: 50¢, Children: 25¢, reduced family rate available. ere 2 History African Art has been known to the-Western world since Portuguese explorers first visited the West African coast almost 500 years ago. While the power and beauty of African sculpture has been recognized in more recent years, textiles, ornaments and useful objects—particularly jewelry— have remained largely unknown to all but museum curators and collectors. The purpose of this | exhibition is to present approximately 69 examples of decorative work from the Niger Delta, including textiles in wool and cotton, jewelry of brass, ivory and beadwork, and other personal accessories such as: hats and belts. This survey, while not complete, is indicative of the finest pieces, available, many of which are one to two hundred years old and represent the classic styles of the following tribes: the Dogon, Peui, Tuareg, Bambara, Senufu, Mossi, and the peoples of the Liberian, lvory Coast and other regions.
