Students on one of the Summer Tours FFA REPORTER: DARBY RICHINS As summer comes to an end and the new school year starts, the North Summit FFA Chapter can look back on their Summer Ag. Activities and smile! They were able to do a lot of fun things this summer and involve many students! One of the highlights of their summer was the Summer Ag. Tour! The group that went was able to go on some awesome tours on the 21st and 22nd of July. On the first day they had the opportunity to tour Alberta Dairy, an Orchard, and a Museum on BYU campus in Provo. That night, they swam at an Orem Water Park and had a great time! The next day they toured Kennecott Copper Facility, The Wild Horse and Burro Facility, a Water Conservation District, and Welfare Square. They ended out the tour by going to the Day's of '47 Rodeo! All who went had an awesome time! Another exciting event of the summer was the Summer Contest Series! On Thursday evenings throughout the summer, members could come to the Ag. Room and learn about the different contests that the North Summit Chapter participates in during the year: Floral, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Foods, Food Science, Horse Evaluation, Livestock Evaluation, Meats, and Poultry Evaluation. Two contests were showcased each night and mini contests were held! At the end of July, a final contest night was held where members could come and test their newfound knowledge for a chance to win some awesome prizes! Kylee Jo Stokes was the Grand Prize winner and Koleman Ducharme and Jessica Vernon were runners up! Congratulations to these winners and thanks to all those who participated in this fun activity! Not only did the North Summit FFA chapter have a lot of fun activities this summer but they also participated in a great service project in conjunction with the South Summit FFA Chapter! Both chapters worked together and painted the Summit County Stockyards in Wanship. Three mornings were spent painting the panels, chutes, and poles all throughout the stockyards and getting paint all over! This was a highly enjoyable service project for all those who participated! Thanks to Sterling Banks for allowing this great opportunity! The North Summit FFA had a great summer and would like to thank Mrs. Silcox and their summer intern, Jarvis Pace, for all the hard work they did to make this summer possible! They are looking forward to a great school year so keep an eye out for all the fun things they are up to! NSHS 35 year high school reunion Football Season has begun, and the North Summit Braves took the lead in the 2nd quarter with a TD, and then making another at the end of the game! Braves' McQueen tried for the kick, with no luck in the 2nd quarter, and Rees tried for a pass, again with no luck. Their win over Beaver 12-0 brought the crowds to their feet. There was a street dance at the school enjoyed by all who came - School has begun, and so has the fun! The Braves play Duchesne Aug. 26, at 7 p.m., home. Thanks to the Coaches, Devin Smith, Lyndon Johnson, Marques Johnson, Nathan Greenwood, Brent Scholes, Garrett Richins and Riley Rasmussen! NSHS Cheerleaders Still Rockin' & Rollin' after 35 years! The NSHS classes of 1975 and 1976 reunited after 35 years at the Spring Chicken Inn in Morgan. Fun was had by all dancing and reminiscing of times past. Governor challenges Utahns to visit their state parks Governor Gary Herbert declared Aug. 1 through 7, as Utah State Parks Road Trip Week challenging Utahns to visit their state parks. Visitors to any Utah State Park the first week in August will receive a free Utah State Parks pin, while supplies last. No taxpayer funds were used to purchase pins. Six Utahns visited all 43 state parks in three days last June and drove approximately 2,200 miles, visiting all 43 state parks in 72 hours.
