Show unable to ship 0 ore re mines reduce forces 0 eagle blue bell and vie vic tona mines forced to lay off large number because there is III no market for their dry ore 0 during the early part 0 of the week the eagle blue bell and victoria mines were forced to reduce their shipments of dry or ore and because ol 01 this tact fact in the neighborhood of fifty men were laid oft off at these properties ordinarily the two mines which are under the same management employ about 1 men but tor for a month past the total number employed has probably been slightly over following the order from the smelter liml limiting ting the output of dry ore to about 60 tons daily the mine management was compelled to cut the force to about 80 or 90 men supt bupt william owens says that the ore from the eagle blue mine as well as the output of victoria has been going to american buelting bm elting refining co these mines have a large amount ore in sight and notwithstanding tact fact that no effort has been made to crowd production the total output has been in excess of 0 one hundred carloads per manth N aurally the companies of dietr district t have been sending out but a limited ed amount of lead ore there eigg no profit in lead ore under existing baing conditions some of the finest fines lead ore that has ever been found in is exposed in the slopes of the eagle blue bell but with lead at its present low price there is not much encourage ment to market this particular class of ore it Is though that the failure of the mines to ship the usual amount of lead ore makes it very difficult for the smelters to get the right mix tures tor for their furnaces bence hence the orders from these plants cutting down the shipments of dry ore or ore carrying only sliver silver and gold it Is a peculiar condition when the smelters are closing down their furnaces tor for lack of ore and at the same time forcing the closing of the mines because the reduction plants are unable to take the class of ore that the mines can ship at a profit the officers ot of th the eagle and vie vic toria mines are willing and anxious to continue shipping even though expenses are so high that profits are away under what they should be but it if there is no market tor for the ore there Is nothing for mining corn com canles to do tut but leave it in the ground supt bupt owens sas sacs his corn com panics will hold as many men as possible on the pay roll taking up considerable development work and keeping the mines in good shape for heavier production just as soon as conditions improve |
