Hundreds of children lined up around the park waiting for the nine o'clock gun shot that started the hunt. Many hours of work went into stuffing the 2500 eggs and hiding them in the park. The Jaycees would like to thank the corporate sponsors Ace Hardware, GIC Conoco, Shelle's Drive In, Gunnison Market, Sanpete Family Wellness, and Family Dollar. Also a big thanks to this year's Easter Bunny (Landry Thompson). At an assembly and dance held on Friday evening the new officers were announced and sworn in by Principal Kent Larsen. The new officers from left to right are: Preston Judy, president; Carlin Johnson, vice president; Lafe Christenson, secretary; Elli Reber, publicity manager; Katie Embly, activity director; and Morgan Overly, historian. Collecting pennies for Relay for Life Some of the children from the Gunnison Valley Hospital Day Care brought pennies from home to take part in the hospital Relay for Life fund raiser. The hospital has a team which is participating in this year's Sanpete County Relay for Life to be held on July 27 and 28 at the Gunnison Valley High School football field. Each Relay team is raising money to help fight cancer. The hospital team is spearheaded by Mary Hansen (pictured) a nurse. Members of the community who have extra pennies are invited to bring them to the hospital to participate in the fund raiser. a en me unnison Va ey azette Gunnison Valley Spring Run-off The seventh annual Gunnison Valley Spring Run Off will be held this Saturday, April 14th. Last year's race took place during a snow storm and numbers were down to 100 runners. This year's race promises to have many more participants. There will be five separate races again this year. Runners can register at Gunnison City Park on the morning of the race. The full marathon, 26.2 miles, will begin at 8 a.m. and costs $35. The 13.1 mile, 1/2 marathon begins at 8:45 with a cost of $28. The 6.2 mile, 10k starts at 9 a.m. and costs $23. The 3.1 mile, 5k has a start time of 8:45 a.m. and will cost $20, and the mothers with strollers and children, 1 mile walk begins at 9:30 and costs $14. Something new this year will be a pasta dinner sponsored by the Gunnison Lions Club. The dinner will be held at Gunnison City Hall beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. The meal will be included in the registration fee, non-participating family members can eat for an additional fee of $4.50. For those out-of-towners wishing to spend the night, there will be RV parking available at Gunnison Valley High School. Valley residents who are not participating in the race are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners. For more information go to gunnisoncity.org |
