Page 9 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Thursday, October 5, 2006 The Scouting Hews! ^ - 'Mjmew-ne* Leave No Trace Minimum Impact Outdoor Ethics & Techniques Trainer Course Camp Maple Dell Lodge - Payson, Utah Oct 13th - 14th, 2006 Fri 5:00 PM - Sat 6:00 PM • Bring your own camping/cooking equipment and food or food plan available for $15. • Cabins are available for the Ladies and the Staff Lodge is available for the Gentlemen • Camp Maple Dell is located 5 miles up Payson Canyon. From 1-15, take exit 250 in Payson. Head towards the mountains (southeast). Turn left at the stoplight. When you hit the top of the hill you will see Peteetneet Academy on the right, 600 east. Turn right onto 600 east. Follow this road approximately 5 miles up the canyon and Camp Maple Dell is on your right. Please obey traffic laws and drive carefully. The speed limit is 25 on 600 east and a nice policeman is waiting to ticket you coming or going if you exceed the speed limit. Register ASAP to ensure your place in the course !!! Those who complete the course are equipped to: • Understand, demonstrate, and teach minimum impact techniques to friends, family, their sponsoring organization, and other community groups. • Lepd a discussion on outdoor ethics and help others explore their own personal outdoor ethic. That's exactly what Cula Ekker did, and then she made it. And go figure, it was a huge success, enough that her place, The Sunglow Family Restaurant, has been in business for almost fifty years selling pickle pies. People like it so well, they travel from all over, because after all, where else can you get pickle pie? Back in the early days of the Sunglow Family Restaurant, a group of motorcycle riders from Salt Lake would hop on their motorcycles come Sunday afternoon, and, ride out to Bicknell, Utah because they just had to have another slice. In fact, they liked it so much, they wanted the recipe, but Ekker was not to be had so easy. She drove a hard bargain. The motorcycle gang actually had to trade one of their own favorite recipes in exchange for the secret of the pickle pie. The recipe they traded it for?
