Show Sports The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 6 BULLDOGS Continued from Page 1 points they would score. The Bulldogs held tough on the Wasps first drive and forced them to punt on just four plays. But the Dogs fumbled on their possession and the Wasps recovered deep in Bulldog territory. Two plays later, the Wasps scored on a 15 yard touchdown run. The Dogs went four and out on their next series and Gubeli was called into punt. This drive did have one exciting play as Taylor Ashton did a front flip over about three linemen for a two yard gain. Juab's next drive went nowhere. First and second downs were incomplete passes. On third down, Sye Bunnell had a huge sack dropping the quarterback for a seven yard loss. The Wasps punted on fourth down. The dogs' next drive was a nightmare. On first down, Jackson was dropped eleven yards behind the line of scrimmage. Second down was an incomplete pass. Then on third down, the Wasps intercepted Jackson's pass. Following the interception, the Wasps rushed for 63 yards on five plays and another touchdown. The Bulldogs were able to move the ball on their next possession as they went 70 yards on eleven plays. The drive ended on the ten yard line as the snap was fumbled and the Wasps recovered. The Wasps and the Bulldogs each had one more possession before halftime but neither team was able to score. At the half, the Scoreboard read visitors 14, home 7. The Wasps began the second half with great field position after a 25 yard return that ended at the Bulldog 45 yard line. On the drive, the Wasps passed for 15 yards and rushed for 14 more. But they also had a holding call that cost them ten. Heston Neal dropped the runner for a three yard loss on one play and a few plays later, Kade Bown added another tackle for a three yard loss. On fourth down and seven, the Wasps threw an incomplete pass and the Bulldogs took over possession on their own 28. The Bulldogs began their first possession of the second half with two short runs. One from Satterfield and the other from Ashton. On third down, Jackson was sacked for a thirteen yard loss which was painful but not near as painful as the season ending broken collar bone that Jackson received on the play. The broken collar bone was on his left shoulder and shouldn't affect his throwing arm for baseball but this basketball season is in question. Following the big loss, Gubeli was again called in to punt the ball away. The Wasps scored quickly on their next drive going 55 yards in six plays. The Bulldogs went 47 yards in ten plays on their next drive but eventually turned the ball over on downs on the Wasps 27 yard line. The Wasps opened the drive with a 53 yard pass completion deep into Bulldog territory. Three plays later, they rushed for their fourth touchdown of the night and a 28-7 lead. The Bulldogs' next drive started off well with Neal returning the ball 27 yards on the kickoff. From there it got real ugly real fast. Bryant Davis threw a 25 yard pass completion on first down that was called back on a holding call. Then on first and 25, he again connected on a 15 yard pass to Ashton, but just like the play before, it was called back on a Bulldog holding call. On first and 36, Davis did connect with Anderson for 15 yards. Then another completion to Anderson for six more on second. On third down, Davis was dropped for a ten yard loss then on fourth, he was sacked for another negative five. Juab sent in their second string to run out the clock, so we all thought, but on fourth down and eleven yards to go with only one second on the clock, the Wasps ran 21 yards for their fifth touchdown of the night. If that isn't rubbing salt in the wound, I don't know what is. The final score read, Wasps 34, Bulldogs 7. The Bulldogs did have a few bright spots in the game. Chad Satterfield had 97 yards to go along with his touchdown. Taylor Ashton rushed for 66 and caught two passes for 35 more. Jace Anderson ran for 24 yards and caught five passes for 53 yards. Heston Neal showed his speed and strength by returning the ball five times for 80 yards. That's a great 16 yard return average. The Bulldogs will have their hands full as they travel to Moab this week to play Grand. Grand leads the 2A schools in scoring with an average of 30 points per game. They are also tough on the other side of the ball only allowing eleven points per contest. This week's game will be Friday at 7 p.m. in Moab. Go get 'em Dogs!
