Manti Because of renovation work, the Manti library will not hold a summer reading program but will have one in the fall after the library reopens. Mt. Pleasant The theme of the Mt. Pleasant Library’s summer reading program is “Be Creative at Your Library.” Story time will be held every Wednesday from May 27 until July 8. The time is 10:45-11:45 a.m. for children up to age 12. On July 8, the library will hold a party at which all children who read at least one hour during the summer will receive a prize. For each hour read, children will be entered in a drawing for prizes, and all who complete the program will receive a special prize. The library is also looking for volunteers to help with weekly story times. For more information or to sign up, call 462-3340. The library is also holding a teen summer reading program in conjunction with area’s high school and middle school. Teenage children can register for the program starting on June 1 and are expected to read one book each month, July-August. For each book read (up to three), an entry will be placed in a drawing for prizes, including an iPod Touch. HELP WANTED Official Sanpete County Sheriff’s Corrections Roster Notification Opening date: May 19, 2009 Closing date: June 2, 2009 at 5 p.m. The Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office is currently creating a roster for Corrections Deputies to perform law enforcement & corrections duties for the citizens of Sanpete County and the State of Utah. This roster may be used to fill current and upcoming openings at the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office. Sanpete County Sheriff’s Corrections Deputies are required, but not limited, to the following: Job Requirements Respond to and investigate a variety of corrections issues while defending the Constitution of the United States, enforcing the laws of the State of Utah, and Sanpete County. Willfully work weekends, holidays, day shift, swing shift, night shifts, and unusual and varied schedules. Be subject to call-outs and emergency activations. Write reports, provide testimony, and facilitate evidence collection prior to and during courtroom proceedings. Enforce laws, work with other agencies, provide court security, and transport prisoners and mentally ill subjects/patients. Conduct themselves in accordance with county policy, sheriff’s policy, the law enforcement code of ethics, local, State, and Federal laws. Work with fidelity under the Sheriff’s Office command structure. Submit to and pass random drug testing. In addition successful applicants may be assigned to perform other duties. Minimum Eligibility Requirements Include: Must be 21 years of age. Graduation from high school or its equivalent. Must be a citizen of the United States at time of employment. Must complete a current application packet. **(See notice below ) Must possess a valid Utah State Driver License. (Copy of valid driver license must be submitted with your application) Must Pass the National Police Officer Selection Test. (See our web site for more information on the testing process ) Demonstrate ability to pass Utah POST physical assessment requirements entry level.( See our web site for requirements ) Must pass a background check. Demonstrate ability to handle firearms (Glock 40 cal. handgun, and 12 Ga. pump style shotgun). Must pass a pre-employment drug screen. Applicant must be able to complete the POST application and Academy and obtain Correctional Officer certification. Preferences May be given to applicants with College Education. (Copy of College transcripts must be attached). Post certified in corrections or LEO (Copy of POST Certifications must be attached). Testing If you have, within the last six month, completed a Utah POST physical assessment, entry level, you may submit those scores. ALL testing will be on June 4, 2009 at the Central Utah Correctional Facility, Gunnison, Utah. The salary will be determined by the Sanpete County Sheriff and County Commissioners within the range of $13.34 to $23.88 / hour plus benefits.
