Sanpete Messenger/Gunnison Valley Edition A9 Salt Lake company now handling donated organs Paid advertisemnt SALT LAKE CITY—Intermountain Donor Services is now recovering all organs and tissues for Utah and southern Idaho, except corneas, which the Lion’s Eye Bank recovers. Nearly 600 people in Utah and Idaho are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplants, and thousands are waiting for life-enhancing tissue transplants. Alex McDonald, director of public education for IDS, said he believed most people thought organs already came from one company. “Now that IDS is recovering all organs and tissues,” he said, “donor families and hospital staff will be communicating with fewer recovery staff, which will make the process easier for them.” As of July 8, IDS began recovering skin grafts and bone and connective tissue. Other tissues IDS recovers include heart valves, ligaments, tendons, major blood vessels, and fascia. Together, these tissues are used to treat patients suffering from congenital defects, trauma, burns, dental defects, arthritis, cancer, vascular and heart disease. Wrong phone number in ‘Who’s Who in Sanpete’ MANTI—“Who’s Who and What’s What in Sanpete County,” a Sanpete Messenger publication issued in 2004, contains a wrong number for the Zions Bank in Manti. The number listed actually belongs to Sandy Clark of Manti. She has been receiving several calls per day for Zions Bank, who says she would rather not have to redirect so many calls. The correct number for the bank is 835-7471. The Messenger apologizes for the error. The number will be corrected in the next edition of “Who’s Who,” due out in early 2006.
