Gunnison Valley Hospital On Jan. 9, 2005 a boy was born to Brandon and Julia DeLeeuw of Loa. He weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and will be named Daxton William DeLeeuw On Jan. 12, 2005 a girl was born to Kurtley and Shara Peterson of Centerfield. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and will be named Aubrey Jane Peterson. On Jan. 13, 2005 a girl was born to Brian and Julie Swindell of Richfield. She weighed 7 pounds and will be named Anna Lise Swindell. Ashley Cox Ashley Ladonna Cox, daughter of Brent and Ladonna Cox of Manti received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award in the Manti 2nd Ward on Jan. 16, 2005. Ashley is a junior at Manti High School. Her grandparents are Cecil and Doris Cox of St. George, the late Phyllis Cox, and Jerry and Darleen Wilkins of Kaysville, Utah, and the late Kathleen Wilkins. Ashley Ladonna Cox WEDDINGS Jackson-Hunt BIRTHDAYS First-Kason Jeffery Ericksen Kason Jeffery Ericksen, the son of Jeff and Annette Ericksen of Fairview, celebrated his first birthday last Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. Kason loves to practice walking from mom to dad and back again. His twin brothers, Jordan and Justin, and princess sister, Allyssa love their little brother. He is the grandson of Dale and Lucy Williams of Afton, Colorado and John and Lila Ericksen of Mt. Pleasant. Wanlass, the son of Carl and Julie Wanlass of Lost Creek, has been called to serve in the Minnesota, Minneapolis Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on Feb. 2, 2005. Riley will speak in the Aurora 2nd Ward on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 12:30 p.m. He is the grandson of Boyd and Wilma Coates, Aurora and Alma and the late Frank Wanlass of Manti. Riley graduated from North Sevier High School and was ac- OBITUARIES Ernestine Caroline VanOverberghe Ernestine Caroline VanOverberghe of Ephraim passed away Jan. 11, 2005 at the Sanpete Valley Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 26, 1917 in New York City, New York to Ernest Michelsen and Louise Mueller. She married Raymond M. VanOverberghe on June 12, 1938 in New York City, New York; he preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1986. She worked at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 25 years. After work she would go to volunteer her time in the children’s ward. Ernestine who was known to her family as “GG” had a great attitude and a happy disposition. She was a delight to be around. She may have been only 4 feet 8 inches tall, but she was a giant in our eyes and had a huge heart. GG is survived by her children Carole Ann Seals (Robert, deceased) Ephraim and Raymond R. VanOverberghe (Susan Justice), St. Charles, Ill.; grandchildren, Sherry Nielson (Russell) Ephraim, Robert Seals II (Jana) Gilbert, Ari., Debra VanOverberghe Carlsbad, Cal., Michelle Rutishauser (Warren) Oswego, Ill., Brenda Fish (Chris) Roseville, Minn., Courtney VanOverberghe Chicago, Ill.; Ernestine Caroline VanOverberghe great-grandchildren, Brant Rutishauser, Tom Nielson, Dale Nielson, T.J. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Ephraim Stake Center Chapel, 400 East Center Street, Ephraim. Family and friends called Saturday morning from 1011 a.m. at the Stake Center, prior to services. Interment for Ernestine took place at the Ephraim City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements for Ernestine have been entrusted to the care and direction of Warenski Funeral Home. Lila Mae Funk Miller MISSIONS Timothy Jordan Peterson, the son of Gene and Dawn Marie Peterson of Manti, has accepted a call to serve in the Indianapolis, Indiana Spanish Speaking Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will speak in the Manti 6th Ward on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on Feb. 9, 2005. Wednesday, January 19, 2005 Mary Jackson and Christopher Hunt Merrill and Deborah Hunt of Centerfield, are tickled pink to announce the forthcoming marriage of their son Christopher Rulon Hunt to Mary Rebecca Jackson daughter of Bryan and Elizabeth (Betsey) Jackson of West Valley City. They will be married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Jan. 21, 2005. There will be a Reception held that evening at the Merry Lane LDS Church at 3372 South Merry Lane (5285 West) in West Valley City from 6:308:30 p.m. No reception will be held in Centerfield. Christopher is the grandson of the late Sidney Rulon and Martha Gwen Hunt of Torrey, Ed and Pat Kohlschreiber of Green Valley, Ariz. and Merrill and Jeri Nielson of LaVerkin. Mary is the Granddaughter of Marian Jackson and the late Thomas Wendell Jackson of Provo, Mariam Farnsworth and the late Dean Farnsworth of West Valley City. Christopher graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1996, Snow College in 1998 and ITT Tech in 2001. He works in the Salt Lake area. Mary graduated from Hunter High School in 2003 and from Taylor Andrews Cosmetology in 2004. Chris and Mary will reside in West Valley City at the present. The Sanpete Messenger The Voice of Sanpete County since 1893 Moroni City Meeting Schedule Changes Council meetings for Moroni City for 2005 have been changed from the 2nd Wednesday to the 3rd Wednesday of each month, still at 7 p.m. Other meeting schedules for the year include the Justice Court, which will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Planning and Zoning meetings will meet the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.The Board of Adjustments will meet as needed. All municipal meetings will be conducted at the Moroni City Hall unless otherwise directed. James and Phyllis are the parents of James Jr. and Larry Jay Gregerson; six grandchil- dren, Crystal Bailey, Robin Gregerson, Shallon Gregerson, Justin Gregerson, Bodie Gregerson and Clint Gregerson and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hannah, Harley, Dalton, Dallas, Macee, Neriah and Zoe. Call Steve or Joyce Olsen 283-6344 after 5 p.m. Engraving by Dalton’s Memorial Engraving Lila Mae Funk Miller On Jan. 16, 2005, Lila Mae Funk Miller, a loving, caring, compassionate mother, grandmother and sister returned to her anxiously awaiting Savior and Heavenly Parents after a courageous battle with cancer. She was at home in Manti surrounded by her loving family. Lila was born on May 4, 1936 to Charles Buckley and Emily Sigrid Johnson Funk at home in Sterling, Utah. She married Kenneth E. Miller on Aug. 25, 1954 in Las Vegas, Nev. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Sept. 17, 1954. They later divorced. They were blessed with seven children, 29 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Lila loved people. She cherished her family and loved serving them and others. She was outgoing, optimistic and enthusiastic. She had a great appreciation for good, up-lifting, inspirational music and enjoyed sharing her talents and love for music. She was a hard worker, a wonderful cook and an excellent student. She was very talented with the ability to write poems. She freely expressed gratitude and had great faith. Her priority in life was serving her family and the Lord. She would sacrifice her own time, comfort and needs to serve others. Lila was an active, faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in numerous callings including the Primary presidency, Primary teacher, Young Women’s Camp director, Relief Society teacher, newsletter editor and ward activities committee member. She was a past president of the Manti homemakers, an active member of the Richfield Tops Club and worked in the PTA. She is survived by her eternal companion, Kenneth Miller; son, Dolan (Julie) Miller of Manti and Battle Mountain, Nev., step-son, Ken (Patty) Stika, Springville; daughters, Connie (Harold) Henriod of Manti, Judy Kathleen (Marty) Beutler of Rapid City, S.D., Peggy (Jay) Giroux of Ft. Worth, Tex. and KennaRae Miller of Provo; daughters-in-law, Jonda Miller of Manti, Shelley Stika Sarason of Weed, Cal, and Candy Carmody of Manti. Also surviving are a sister and brothers, Ada (Harold) Fannin of Lindon, Albert Gail (Arla) Funk of Salt Lake City and Eugene (Diane) Funk of Gunnison. She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lila Jo Miller; son, Daren Kay Miller; step-son, Michael David Stika; parents, Charles and Emily Funk; brothers, Charles Reed, James, Daniel Ray, Carl Kay, Clarance Wayne and Howard Vern; sisters, Alice Beth Russon, Emily Grace Funk and Helen Mary Ann Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Sterling LDS Ward Chapel. Friends and family may call at the Neal S.
