Pretty Shield may seek bond purchasers MANTI—The Pretty Shield Foundation may be a step closer toward its goal of building an alternative school near Mt. Pleasant. At a meeting of the Sanpete County Commission yesterday (after press time), commissioners were expected to sign an agreement allowing Pretty Shield to test the bond market to find buyers. The commission had originally intended to sign the agreement during its Jan. 11 meeting, but commissioners were concerned that the agreement didn’t clearly explain that the county was not committing to issuing the bonds. A bond attorney for Pretty Shield was to prepare appropriate language with Sanpete County Attorney Ross Blackham so commissioners could sign the agreement this week. The agreement would allow Pretty Shield 45 days to prepare a bond portfolio and seek interested buyers, but it does not obligate the county to sell the bonds. The Sanpete Messenger The Voice of Sanpete County since 1893 City approves sale of bonds EPHRAIM—Ephraim City has approved the sale of bonds to finance a new ambulance shed. At a City Council meeting on Jan. 5, the council adopted a resolution to allow Ephraim’s Municipal Building Authority to issue and sell bonds in the amount of $141,000 to build a facility to house the city’s ambulance. The resolution clears the way for the project, which has been in the works for over a year, to begin. Also at the meeting, council members decided to hash out the city’s policy on health benefits for ambulance and fire employees in a future work meeting. One issue of concern is whether or not people employed in both departments should receive additional benefits over those employed in only one or the other. Council meeting minutes about the matter in previous years are unavailable, forcing the city to “start a policy from scratch,” says council member Jannette Anderson. NOT IN OUR BANK!
