High Definition TV possible for Sanpete By C. R. Truitt MANTI—The Sanpete County Commission may be looking into upgrading the county’s television translators after a presentation from KMTI owner Doug Barton and Mauri Parson. Parson told the commission that in 2006 the county’s translators would be obsolete and need to be upgraded. He explained that stations have been broadcasting both analog and digital signals since 2000 and by 2006 will discontinue the older analog signal. Sanpete translator equipment cannot receive or broadcast digital signals and needs to be upgraded. Counties run translators as a public service, and Parson named several counties that have kept theirs up with both good buildings and new equipment. He added that Sanpete is lagging behind and needs to get involved in keeping up its translators or they will “go away.” The presentation ended with a tour of the digital system in Barton’s home to show the commission the clarity of the signal, which approaches that of DVDs.
