Tea was served and the mothers who visited the school were well repaid for their trouble. They were given an opportunity of inspecting the work which the 4th grade pupils have been doing during the past few months and It Is unnecessary to say that this work has been of a very high order. It is hoped that during the coming school year more of the mothers will avail themselves of the opportunity of visiting the schools. - Every woman who takes pride in her neatness realizes the necessity of having a plentiful supply of silk and muslin underwear on hand. At no time of the year is this requirement so urgent as in the warm, dusty spring and summer months. How Long Are Property Owners To Suffer Loss The flooding of lower Main street this week emphasises the need of coarse screens on the water course to prevent rubbish of all kinds from lodging beneath the business houses. The property owners in that parUcular part of the business district have suffered Just such losses on a number of occasions and will continue to suffer unless the city officers take this matter In hand and across the water place "grizzlies course, thus preventing Umber, cans, etc. from being carried down beneath the buildings where they are sure to become clogged as was the esse on Wednesday. Thousands of articles are thrown into this water course, which is nothing more than an open sewer for rubbish, and then flood waters come along and make trouble. Breens or1 grizzlies, placed where they could be reached would save all of this trouble. These screens would prevent the larger articles from being carried down the water course where it passes beneath buildings and trouble such as we bad this week would be averted. This Is the onlv way that it can be averted and statements to the contrary are all bunk. It Is true that there Is litUe room beneath some of the buildings but it is ample if the water has an unobstructed passageway. Property owners who are in teres ed should take the matter up with the city officers and work out a solu; tlon of the difficulty. on Wednesday of Beautiful Voiles and Organdies Fine richly colored, distinctively designed, the new voiles and organdies are just a matter of pride and satisfaction to us. The increases granted to the power company are so heavy that the change promises to upset business in some lines and greatly reduce profits If It does not bring about a loss. Our local mines, in fact almost all users of power, are affected and there is a feeling throughout the state that the members of the publla utilities commission made a grave mistake, when they granted the power company permission to make such sweeping changes in rates. These changes In rates were based on Increased coats for labor and materials.. It la true that labor costs had reached their highest point when the hearing was In progress, and that materials of all kinds i bringing exhorbltant prices, but since that time the tendency has been downward and the power company is reaping the benefits of a decision which never ought to have been and probably would not be possible If the esse were to be reopened.
