Show utah lead committee leaves for washington 0 0 representatives of bah lead pro dubers ernest bamberger damberger and W mont ferry early in the week left for washington D C where they will be joined by the third member of the committee imer pett who Is in new york the utah committee will meet with lead producers from other districts in the united states JO to outline a plan of action whereby the status of the industry can be most fairly presented to the house ways and means committee which Is investigating the need of putting a higher protective tariff on the metal at present the duty on the metal Is 14 of a cent per pound on lead in ore and 25 per cent ad valorem valoree on lead in other forms As this duty it Is claimed by lead producers does not give domestic mines sufficient protection congress will be urged to give the industry a more adequate aa equate tariff with the price of the metal hovering around 4 cents per pound and the cost of production averaging 6 06 11 cents per pound lead producers seem to be unanimous in the opinion that the industry will languish unless a higher tariff Is en acted by congress |
