Show Volume XXX Issue VII The Ogden Valley News Page 7 June 15, 2023 Announcements Obituaries Ronald Paul Romero September 10, 1934 ~ May 25, 2023 Ronald Paul Romero passed away peacefully at his home in Eden, Utah on May 25, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born September 10, 1934 in North Ronald Romero Hollywood, California to Paul A. Romero and Lois Helen Schneider. He served active duty in the U.S. Army from July 1957 to July 1959. He then worked as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1988. The essence of Ron’s life in one word is “friends.” He enjoyed spending time with the many he met through his work at the post office riding dune buggies and generally having a Robert Edward Mager Jr. Robert Edward Mager Jr. “the man, the myth, and the legend from the valley,” passed away from natural causes March 25, 2023, surrounded by his adopted Layne family. Bob was born to Robert Mager Robert Mager Jr. Sr. and Edward Joanne Jewell Mager December 11, 1941 in San Francisco, California. Bob graduated from Riordian High School, an all-boys Catholic school. While in San Francisco, he enjoyed fishing and duck hunting with his dad, going to the rodeo with his cousins, and just all out having a good time. He worked at and retired from Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Company of California. He then moved to Utah where he bought property in Huntsville, built a cabin, and made his dreams a reality by doing all the things that he good time. In 1990, he and his wife Ruthie moved from North Hollywood to Eden, where he took up snowmobiling and made more friends that would last the rest of his life. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting the American Legion in Huntsville, Utah, where he gained even more friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Louise Hedlund Romero. Surviving him are sister, Helen Joanne McCune; son, Ronald James Romero (Amber); grandchildren Kierra Marie, Derek Paul, Logan James, and Laci Rae; and great-grandchildren Elijah David and Trinity Rose; daughter Nita Steitle (David); granddaughter, Kelsey Stokes (Rodney Brown); great-grandson, Parker Stokes Brown; and grandson Alek Stokes. Betty Sue Christensen July 31, 1937 ~ June 6, 2023 Betty Christensen passed away peacefully at home June 6, 2023 from dementia. She was surrounded by her husband and children. Betty was born July 31, 1937 to William Vernon and Robbie Beaver Smith Betty Christensen in Ogden, Utah. She spent her childhood in Huntsville, Utah with her 12 brothers and sisters. She attended Weber High School, then in Ogden, and graduated in May of 1955. During her school years, she was active in the pep club and the rodeo and was a cheerleader. She met the love of her life in Huntsville, Utah, Max, L. Christensen. They were married March 18, 1955 in the Logan, Utah temple, being sealed for all time and eternity. They enjoyed 68 years of life together. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Jeanene, Linda, Rodney, and Patricia. Betty and Max lived in Layton, Utah after they married. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a career woman who started working at Dee Hospital in labor and delivery. She then worked as a Tax Examiner at IRS for several years. Finishing her career as a Program Manager in Munitions organization at Hill AFB where she retired after 25 years. Betty was a very athletic woman. She enjoyed playing softball for many years while she was raising four children. She was an excellent bowler and in many leagues. Her other hobbies included quilting—making quilts for loved. He loved his German Shepards, hunting, fishing, and raising mules, in which he won many state fairs and competitions. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nance Brown, and brother in laws Tom Brown and Ken Pors. He is survived by his sister Beverly (BeBe) Mager of Penngrove, California. When you first met Bob, he might have seemed ornery, but he really wasn’t—just extremely shy. If you were lucky enough to break the shyness, you would have found a guy with a heart of gold, a friend for life! The tree was planted near the park’s playground. McKay served as mayor of Huntsville for 16 years, from 1994 to 2010. He was also a native of Huntsville. During his tenure as mayor, he had many accomplishments, including the planning and construction of the water treatment plant for Huntsville that was state-of-theart when it was built 25 years ago. She also enjoyed reading and camping with her family. She and Max joined the Layton, JCs, and she was very active in community service. Betty had a strong testimony of the gospel and served faithfully throughout the years, answering many callings, including Relief Society President, Gospel Doctrine teacher, primary teacher, and visiting teacher. She and Max served three missions together. During the year 2010, she and Max attended every operating temple in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. She and her husband loved to travel, and they went to many places in the United States. Before her illness, one of her goals was to travel to Israel and she was able to do this with her daughter, Linda. Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father and 11 siblings. She is survived by her husband, Max; one brother, Joseph Devon Smith; children Jeanene (Ted) Atkinson, Linda Cox, Rodney Christensen, and Patricia (Chris) Haggard. She has 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Point 4th Ward chapel, 2852 W. 300 N., West Point, Utah. Friends may visit the family Monday, June 12, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W., Roy, Utah, and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful care she received from Valeo Hospice.
