Show B3 Castle Valley Review, February 2009 Holiday Spring Fest Coming to CEU James L. Davis If a wedding or formal event is on your horizon, then the College of Eastern Utah’s Holiday Spring Fest will offer an opportunity to see some of the latest in formal wear, bridal gowns and everything else involved in making a picture perfect wedding. Organized as a CEU Cosmetology Scholarship fund-raiser, Holiday Spring Fest will be held at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center Multipurpose Room on Feb. 6-7. On Feb. 6 the festival will begin at 3 p.m. and run until 7 p.m., with a fashion show at 6 p.m. and on Feb. 7 the festival will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 3 p.m., with a fashion show at 1 p.m. Local business owners who cater to bridal or formal events will be at the festival to provide information on their services and will have displays that detail what is the latest and greatest in wedding décor and how they can help you achieve just the right look for your wedding or formal event. The Holiday Spring Fest will feature florists, photographers, catering, candles, jewelry, scrapbooking, announcements, bridal and prom gowns, tuxedos, home décor, wedding cakes and décor, hair and nail salons, day spa and more and as the days to the event tick ever closer the students of CEU cosmetology are busy putting together their own creations for the festival. “It’s a way to showcase our students,” said Debbie Prichard, CEU Cosmetology instructor and director of Spring Fest. For the festival every student will showcase a hairstyle of their own creation on a mannequin and visitors will be asked to vote on which one is their favorite. In preparing their bridal hairstyle the students will also create their own business cards to go along with the display, giving them an opportunity to learn some of the skills they will need to have as they graduate and begin working in their profession. Now in its sixth year, Prichard said the idea for the Spring Fest was actually dreamed up by some of her students. “Some of my students came in and they were brainstorming and said we want to have a bridal fair. They really wanted to do it and have all of the money go toward scholarships for cosmetology,” she said. Since then the Holiday Spring Fest has slowly grown over the years and is now an event the students and local businesses embrace with enthusiasm. For the fashion show all of the models are local and the students will wear the gowns. “The girls grow so much from the opportunity to be part of the fashion show and work with the booths. It’s a lot of fun for the students and that’s what we’re here for,” Prichard said. David and Marie Bowles of Bryner Photography said the opportunities you can take advantage of during the Holiday Spring Fest are invaluable for someone planning a wedding. “You can walk in without anything planned for your wedding and walk out with your entire wedding planned,” David Bowles said. The Spring Fest, Castle Valley’s version of the bridal shows you can find along the Wasatch Front, may not be quite as large, but the quality remains the same and the event helps local students and businesses. “We’re not Thanksgiving Point, but we do a pretty good job,” Prichard said. Admission prices will be $4 for adults and $2 for students with an activity card. There is no admission charge for children.
