Show C5 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, July 29, 2008 Fish Finder ABAJO MOUNTAINS On July 21, Conservation Officer Paul Washburn reported fair fishing at Lloyds, Monticello and Foy lakes with marshmallows or PowerBait. At Lloyds, some good-sized bluegills are being caught with a worm and bobber close to shore. Bass fishing has been good in the flooded brush of Recapture Reservoir. Washburn indicated that Blanding #3 and #4 have been slow to fair during much of the day. Late evening and early morning seem to be the best times to fish. Washburn spoke with one group that fished Blanding #4 from a small boat. They talked about excellent fishing with PowerBait right off the bottom. BENCHES & BOULGERS RESERVOIR Lieutenant Carl Gramlich reported slow fishing during daylight hours, and recommended early morning or late evening. Try a crawler/mallow combination for best success. CLEVELAND RESERVOIR This reservoir has been virtually angler-free, suggesting a low catch-rate. DUCK FORK RESERVOIR A slowing pattern continues due to summer heat and bright moon phase. Try Jake’s lures at first light or late evening. ELECTRIC LAKE Tributaries offer faster fishing than the lake itself, although the average fish size will be smaller. Boaters will have better success than bank anglers. Fly fishermen should bring wooly bugger, scud and leech patterns. Spincasters should throw some Panther Martins and Jake’s Spin-a-Lures in the tackle box. Bait anglers may want to try chartreuse PowerBait or a crawler/mallow combination. Fish range from 6-16 inches. Biting flies are especially bad. Cover up with repellent, and avoid fishing during the heat of the day. FERRON RESERVOIR Engage in other recreation during the day. Fish only when the sun is over the horizon. An extra four fish may be taken at this water, if the extra four are brook trout. GIGLIOTTI POND Aquatics Manager Paul Birdsey fished here this week and reported good luck with worms and salmon eggs. The west side is better in the morning, while fishing off the pavilions is better in the afternoon or evening. GOOSEBERRY RESERVOIR Baitcasters should try nightcrawlers or PowerBait in chartreuse, rainbow or orange. Fly-fishers have done best with wet flies on sinking line. GRASSY LAKE Early birds will get the worm here. By mid-morning, the bite stops. GREEN RIVER Walt and Hunter Maldonado report good fishing for 1-2 pound channel cats, using shrimp on a slip rig. Evening fishing is most productive. For best success, fish the shallow edge just in front of deep holes. Anglers are cautioned that endangered fish may be hooked on the same rig. Please return these immediately to the water. HUNTINGTON CREEK Recently, the best fly patterns have been a #18 elk hair caddis or #18 bluewinged olive. Real or artificial grasshoppers have also been effective. The water is clear, making a stealthy approach essential. The catch usually consists of 11-14 inch brown trout. MAMMOTH RESERVOIR Daytime fishing has been slow. Avoid the sun and heat for best success. Try a straight nightcrawler ahead of three feet of leader and a full bubble in the early morning. Move the crawler periodically to attract attention. Effective fly patterns include a #10 beadhead green/black scud or a #10 Canada blood leech. Mammoth Reservoir is closed to the possession of cutthroat trout or trout with cutthroat markings. HUNTINGTON NORTH STATE PARK State Park Manager Dan Richards reports slowing bass fishing. Bass have moved out of the shallow weed beds and into deeper water. Some fishermen have had success in the south cove, where weedy areas lay adjacent to deeper water. Bluegills have also been biting on a worm and bobber or small lure. Try fishing the shallow water on the north end of the reservoir. DWR Fisheries Technician Ryan Leonard caught a few bass from shore this past week, using a jointed Rapala with a black back and silver sides. He found that a silver crankbait or spinner was also effective. Ryan forecasts improved fishing as the moon wanes. JOES VALLEY RESERVOIR Fishing has been extremely slow. To improve your chances, do your fishing from a boat in deep water. The best bait will be a chub or chub meat. At this reservoir, all trout from 15-22 inches must be immediately released. The trout limit is two, only one can be over 22 inches. Photo by Randall Stilson Richard and Kallie Kay Oman of Payson at Pete’s Hole. LASAL MOUNTAINS A week ago, Conserva- tion Officer TJ Robertson provided the following report: Hidden Lake offered good fishing with traditional baits, small spoons and spinners, especially in the morning and evening. Dons Lake has been good in the early morning or evening. Small flies or Jakes lures have been working well. Oowah has been good, except during the heat of the day. Warner has been fair. Fishing has been best in the morning or evening with small nymph, mosquito patterns or small spoons. Dark this happens. Of course, you know better than to try and impart information to those who haven’t asked for it. Save your pearls for the wise. SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You’ve generously dealt so many favors over the last few weeks that there’s hardly a person in your midst who doesn’t owe you. It gives you no pleasure to be one up on anyone. In contrast, erasing a debt gives you a soaring sense of complete satisfaction. Pisces and Virgo are untapped resources of emotional support. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You’re like a psychic sponge, picking up on the vibes of everyone around you. At the same time, you’re ready to do the right thing for you, which may not be the same thing that others want you to do. It’s not selfish; it’s essential that you follow your heart. When you do, the ultimate outcome will serve all involved. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Decisions might be about love, family or business, but it all impacts your finances. Review your responsibilities before you make a move. Don’t buy what you could possibly borrow. Chances are there’s a way to do it better, cheaper and greener. Whatever you do, others will model your behavior. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You’re owning all that belongs to you. Whether it’s a blessing or a problem, it’s yours to love. And if it’s not really yours, it flies from your life this week, leaving you free to realize and claim what truly is yours. Friday’s events help you realize to a deeper degree what makes you ecstatic. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Things change. You’ll be enthusiastically received by the very same one who wouldn’t take your calls last week. You’re learning not to take things personally. When people seem bored, put them to work. CANCER (June 22-July 22). There’s no bad news or good news, just events and how you choose to react to them. Because you’re involved in such a big project now, most of the smaller developments will probably get no reaction at all from you, which is absolutely perfect. You’re headed for the big leagues and this is how it all starts. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Your best behavior inspires imitation - how flattering! All right, you might have to adjust a little bit because it certainly is a little odd seeing someone else trying to “wear” your ideas. But once you get over the initial weirdness, you’re on to being completely impressed with yourself and honored for the tribute. THIS WEEK’S BIRTHDAYS: You’re a self-made person, and this year you add to your creation. The next four weeks are about gaining life, relationship and work skills - of the totally unnecessary variety. You inherently know that all the golden experiences of life happen when you go beyond what is needed or expected of you. You’ll have greater financial means to work with in September. Vacations in October bring loved ones close. May is the most romantic month of all when new bonds are forged from heart to heart. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Handle a bit of unfinished business. Even if the act seems small, insignificant or unrelated to the rest of what’s going on with you, take time to complete it. The resolution of this cycle works as a magic key. It’s the simple turn that transforms the universe into a machine made to serve you your wildest wishes. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You’re an expert at something.
