Elder Seth Bott Elder Seth Glen Bott has completed an honorable two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the California Ventura Mission. He will speak in sacrament meeting in the Castle Dale First Ward on June 8 at 11 a.m. Seth is the son of David and Colleen Bott of Castle Dale and the grandson of Hugh and Shonna Peterson of Emery and the late Glen and Caroline Bott of Castle Dale. WEDDINGS Peter Ouzts Students enjoy ‘rewards’ of reading The Castle Dale Elementary PTA, with officer Tammy Allred as organizer, held a “Reading Incentive Program” for kindergarten through third grades. The students were given slips each week to take home and were encouraged to read. Allred also sent “BEAR Bulletins” home with tips and quotes for parents to help their children learn the importance of reading and how to try to make it fun for them to read. The BEAR program is based on the theme, “Be Excited About Reading” and was a hit with the students. Allred kept the students reading slips and they were placed in the drawing at the end of the year. Kaitlyn Hansen won the girl’s bike; Peter Ouzts won the boys bike; Logan Whitleather won speed stackers; Emily Monroe won speed stackers; Cory Eden and Bethany Prettyman won signed Jazz Bears. All of the students who participated were presented a prize. Cottonwood student wins phone book cover photo contest Cottonwood Elementary student, Alexis Gale, won the photo contest for the cover of the new Emery Telcom phone book. Emery Telcom Marketing and Public Relations employee, Beau Stoker, made the announcement at an awards assembly at the school on May 23. Alexis received a $50 gift card for her entry. Stoker said the contest was open to both Carbon and Emery county schools, Kindergarten to ninth grade. The students submitted photos of the areas surrounding Carbon and Emery counties and the staff at Emery Telcom narrowed the entries down to the top three from each school. The Marketing and Public Relations department made the final choice. Lindsey Stephens James Ryan Nelson Lindsey Stephens and James Ryan Nelson were married May 22, 2008. Parents of the bride are Edward and Loril Stephens and parents of the groom are James R. and Lynda Nelson. Friends will gather for a barbeque in their honor on May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parrish home, 500 W. Canyon Road, in Ferron. Alexis Gale, with her mom, Tammy. H&H 11 students receive Emery Telcom scholarships Eleven students from Emery and Carbon counties have been rewarded for their academic excellence with college scholarships from Emery Telcom. Taryn Baker of Emery, Malissa Bell of Orangeville, Rachel Boyack of Helper, Austin Gillins of Castle Dale, Colton Grange of Huntington, Madison Jensen of Cleveland, Angelique Pappas of Wellington, Billie Jean Reed of Elmo, Kamille Sheikh of Price, Leah Swalberg of Green River, and Janelle Urie of Ferron were selected for the 2008 scholarship award. The annual scholarship contest judges applicants based on academic background, goals and essay quality. Twenty-six students entered the 2008 scholarship contest. Lewis Jewelry Company, Inc.
