Show B2 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, May 6, 2008 Track team in the running for Region crown Rebecca Lofley There is but one trait needed to succeed. It is self-discipline. The Emery High track team throughout the course of this year has learned the role of self-discipline in competition. Coach Darrel Gardner put it best when he said that self-discipline is doing what you know you need to when you don’t want to. The track team has demonstrated their self-discipline, pushing themselves at each meet and practice. On April 29, they traveled to the Richfield Relays. They placed in most of relays, using it as more of a workout than a competition. The junior varsity team, comprised of freshmen and sophomores, competed at Juan Diego on April 30. Despite the cold, they did very well. Six individuals on the track team - Madison Jensen, Rebekah Bott, Lacey Montgomery, Tyler Killpack, Levi Swasey, and McKay Allred – traveled to BYU on May 3 to compete with some of the best runners and jumpers in 3A, 4A, and 5A high schools from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado. Coach Gardner is confident that though they are only a few among a large crowd, all of his kids will have placed. These six athletes are ranked in the top five in their events in the 3A division. Lacey Montgomery is currently ranked third in the 400-meter, with a time of one minute one millisecond. She and the other five athletes have risen to each new challenge along with the rest of the team. The track team will vie to take first at region track, which will be held at Carbon High School on May 8. They will then compete at state track at BYU from May 15-17. OUT ‘N’ ABOUT Paint the Town Orangeville is sponsoring “Paint the Town.” This program is for Orangeville citizens to help in their home maintenance. The city is encouraging citizens to clean up their yards and homes. If your home is in need of a new paint job you can go to the city office and pick up the information you will need, go to Jones Ace Hardware and receive $6 off each gallon of outside house paint. Jones Ace Hardware is offering $3 off per gallon of paint and Orangeville City is matching that amount for a total of $6 off per gallon of paint. The city is limited on available funds for the program, so it will be on a first come, first served basis until funds are exhausted. Pick up your Paint the Town certificate at City Hall. Help make Orangeville a “Pretty Little Place” to live, work and play.
