She was born to Ray Curtis Barney and Lucinda Young Barney on June 17, 1931 in Salt Lake City. She was raised and attended school in Spanish Fork. She married the love of her life, Hyrum Denton Topham on Oct. 4, 1947. Their marriage was solemnized June 17, 1964 in the Manti Temple. Denton passed away November 30, 1983. Barbara worked for Nebo School District Food Service for over 30 years. She served on the Utah Selective Service Draft Board for 20 years and the USEA for six years. She received many awards. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. She loved the gospel. Her family and friends were most important and she never missed telling them, either by phone call, or a card. She will be dearly missed. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed painting ceramics, reading, genealogy and crocheting. LaRue has always been active in the LDS Church which she loved with all her heart. She served in leadership positions in Primary, Mutual, and Relief Society, and especially enjoyed going to the temple. Merrill and LaRue 9:25 raised four children in Benjamin. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her four children, Kevin (Linda), Connie (Rick) Hansen, Scott (Susan), and Janet (Mike) Edwards, eleven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Oren Shepherd, and a sister, LaNila (Carl) Hein. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merrill, and her brother, LeRoy Shepherd. The family would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to Uncle Oren. Dr. Frampton and Louise, and the family at Hearthstone Manor for making our Mother's last years as comfortable as possible. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at 12 p.m. at the Benjamin Cemetery.
