Show usiness A6 • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2009 Guardian of Your Community News Dr. Barrowes holds annual pool party Live music greeted Dr. Barrowes' patients as they flocked to the annual Patient Appreciation Pool Party at the Spanish Fork Water Park last Friday. Participants enjoyed playing in the water, listening to live music and eating watermelon and cantaloupe, in addition to the annual prize drawing. The music included five different singers. Thanks to local performing artists Shaun "Hammer Hands" Barrowes, Ryan Innes, Jarrett Burns, Debra Fotheringham and Aaron Southerland, the crowd experienced an ecclcctic mix of accoustic rock, jazz, blues and pop. Patients and their families enjoyed the pool and the refreshments until a storm rolled in and the li^htnins and thunder started up. With everyone safely out of the water the prize drawing began. Sarah Wilson and Colby Black won grand prize Nintendo DSi's, and Keith Hovey won an overnight stay at Homestead Resort in Midway. Other prizes included sports equipment, games, DVDs and gift certificates to Ihe mall, restaurants and iTunes. Patients love the pool party for a variety of reasons. The Pullmans love the prizes. They were also I ^ '. ^ ' ' _ excited to discover that there were free toothpaste squeezers for everybody at the party. The Humphreys' favorite part of the pool party is the pool. The DeNaughel family has been coming for live or six years now. "The kids have a great time. We always come, or we hear it from the kids," Mrs. DeNaughel commented. "One year our daughter came and won the PlayStation 2 the day before her birthday!" The party ended with a bang, quite literally. Just as Dr. Barrowes handed out the last prize, thunder boomed and a drenching rain poured down as everybody made a mad dash to their cars and cleared the parking lot in about three minutes. "Everybody succeeded in getting wet, whether they got in the pool or not!" said Georgette Rowley. The pool party has become a tradition that brings smiles to the faces of patients and staff alike. Dr. Barrowes and his staff look forward to the pool party every year because it is a great way to have fun with the patients and their families outside the office in a relaxed setting. It is their way of saying 'thank you' for the opportunity to work with so many great people. Courtesy photos WHO'S NEXT: Patients wait expectantly as Dr. Barrowes announces the prize winners.
