Show SPANISH FORK Covering what matters most WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 2009 • A l l 31st annual Huck Finn Day held This year's Huck Finn Day was one for the books. Over 100 trout were caught in a span of three hours. A quarter of those fish caught weighed over one pound. There were dozens of kids dressed up as Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher, and it was a perfect day for fishing. There were so many prizes that Parks and Rec. staff introduced "fish kissing." An extra prize went to those who kissed their fish. It was disgusting, but fun. Usually the parent would have to lead the way with their example and kiss the fish first; then their kids would follow right along. "I think between catching and kissing some big fish we had a great time," said Program Coordinator Bronco Hunter. The champion anglers for the day were McKatie Eden for the biggest fish caught, reeling in at 1 lb. 5.5 oz., and Emily Pope for the smallest fish caught, reeling in at 2.25 oz. Each of them won a brand new bike. The day concluded with the Becky Thatcher and Huck Finn look-alike contest. The winners of the Becky Thatcher look a like contest were: 1st place, Mary Gaede; 2nd place, Sarah Pope; and 3rd place, Katelynn Schaugaard. The winners for the Huck Finn look-alike contest were: 1st place. Zackery Schaugaard; 2nd place, Davy Jensen; and 3rd place, Ashton Speters. Thanks to all those who attended, volunteered (in particular the Swenson family), and Huck Finn Day sponsors: MVP Sports, Hickory Kist, McDonalds, Spanish Fork Cinemas, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Grand Slam Batting Cages, Two Jacks Pizza, Spanish Fork Parks and Recreation and The Division of Wildlife Resources.
