Show SPANISH FORK WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2009 • A l l Covering what matters most New lacrosse team in south Utah County SFHS Soccer There are 36 boys on the SF Lacrosse Warriors from Springville, Spanish Fork, Salem, Mapleton, Elk Ridge and Payson. Lacrosse is a very physical, demanding activity and the boys have been working really hard for many months to get ready to play. We are grateful to the coaches, Jesse Thorpe and Mike Schaertl. They have done a great job getting the boys ready for the upcoming season.We would also like to thank everyone who has supported the team in any way. SF Warriors will play their first game on Satur- day, March 21st against Cottonwood. Their first home game will be on Tuesday, March 24 at 5 p.m. at the Spanish Fork High School practice field. If you want to watch an awesome sport for free, come out and enjoy a great lacrosse game. Riley Dinehart, below, scored for SF in the first half, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Cyprus found the net again in the second half, which was enough to give the Pirates the 2 - 1 win. JUNIOR VARSITY Mar 24 Mar 26 Mar 28 Mar 31 April 2 Maple Mountain Martial Arts names student of the month Jason McDonald is our student of the month for March. Jason has been taking martial arts classes for six years. His favorite colors are red and black and his favorite movie is "The Hunt for Red October." Jason has a twin sister and a baby brother who is 18 months old. He loves doing karate, playing baseball and skateboarding. Jason loves going to visit his grandma and grandpa in Washington state and also enjoys going to Disneyland. When it comes to school, Jason's favorite subjects are math and reading. Jason loves to read and some of his favorite books include series like "Redwall," "Pendragon," and "Leven Thumps." Congratulation, Jason. We are proud of you! Castleberry looked sharp as he fanned rive of the seven batters he faced. The fifth and sixth innings belonged to southpaw Tyler Duffin. Duffin struck out four of the seven hitters he faced. All told, the Don pitchers struck out 14 hitters while not allowing a hit. The Dons got on the board in the first inning when both Greg Money and Brock Duke drew walks. A walk to Braden Warren loaded the bases for Brett Grover. The sweet-swinging lefty drilled a base hit up the middle to score Money and Duke. The Dons added two more insurance runs in the fifth when Adam Duke led the inning off with a walk. Lehi at SF, 5 p.m. SF atTimp, 5 p.m. Timpview at SF, 4:30 p.m. Duke advanced on a sac bunt from Hadley Thorpe, then to third on a bunt single from Trevor Randolph. The speedy Randolph promptly stole second base to get into scoring position. Both Duke and Randolph scored when Greg Money ripped an RBI single to right field. The Dons will need all their pitchers this week as they will play at 4A power Cottonwood, then head to St. George for a four-game tournament. • Senior - Baseball • Pitcher Chase Castleberry is the son of Neal and Lorraine Castleberry of Salem. The senior pitcher had his debut on the mound Saturday in the Dons' opener against Viewmont. He pitched a no-hit two innings, striking out five of the seven batters he faced.
