Show SPANISH FORK WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1 1 , 2009 • A5 Covering what matters most Auditions for 'Singin' in the Rain' Kiwanis Mareen Robinson SFCT Courtesy photo FIRE SAFETY: Jack Clark, safety advisor for Master Guard, recently spoke to the Kiwanis about home fire safety. He discussed four misconceptions about fires: (1) It can't happen to me. He pointed out that home fires can strike anyone at anytime. (2) There is plenty of time to escape. Within two minutes a fire can spread throughout the house. (3) Only large fires kill. Many deaths occur before the fire becomes very large. (4) My smoke alarm will always alert me in time. Most smoke alarms over five years old will only work about 55 percent of the time. Eugene Colledge conducted the meeting. Gordon Orr introduced the speaker. Deloris Nelson led the music. George Gull led the pledge and Bert Timpson gave the prayer. Pictured are Jack Clark and Gordon Orr. Salem Library to be closed on Fridays The Salem City Library board of directors has decided to close the library on Fridays beginning March 20 to help reduce costs and close the gap in the current budget. All available money will be directed to basic operations, leaving little or nothing for new books, including some much-anticipated sequels to popular series to be released this spring, the summer reading program or anything else. The shortfall is primarily due to increased costs associated with the new larger facility, and the library board is making every effort to reduce costs for the remainder of the fiscal year, ending June 30,2009. Community members are invited to make cash donations to support the library or to supply new books. Donations from $10-$10,000 are welcome. The library's website, www.SalemCityLibrary.org, will soon have a wish list of books patrons are anxiously awaiting as they are released. This list will also be available in the library. For more information, contact Kerry Loveless at Salem City Library 801-423-2622. Children's Visions Dance to perform 'Past Midnight' Children's Visions Dance will debut "Past Midnight" Saturday, March 28 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Covey Center for the Arts, 42-5 West Center St., Provo. The new show involves 150 dancers ages 3-18 and depicts a child's dream in which she enters a giant toy box and "plays and dances in the world of imagination," according to Debbie Wilkinson, the show's director. Highlights of the show include a a 15-foot dragon and a giant slinky, with every child dancing as a toy. A native of Spanish Fork, Wilkinson taught dance at BYU for over 10 years. Wilkinson founded Children's Visions in 1983 "to give credibility to children's ideas, talents and imaginations." Wilkinson said a lot of work has gone into this year's production. She gives thanks to her various dance teachers: Amy Phelps, Koran McArthur, Kelsey Finlayson, Shanna Weight, Shannon Erickson. Melanie Thorpe and Ginger Christopher; seamstresses Holly Mockett, Marianne Christiansen, KayLynn Wheeler, Lynda Davis and Alesa Birchette; Kendall Call, audio editing; and Dan James and Sara Harvey, lighting design. Tickets for the performance are $6 for children and $8 for adults, and can be purchased by contacting the Covey Center ticket office, 801-852-7007 or online at www.coveycenter.org.
