Loafer Elementary love reading, especially while eating doughnuts. Our great PTA sponsored Dads and Doughnuts to encourage reading! The doughnuts were delicious, and the reading was radical! Thanks to all the dads that came, and to our wonderful PTA! Written by Sixth grade students, Sierra McGhie, Summer Lytle, Lexi Fan Tassell and Kenzie Martin. He also talked to the students about how they can be good citizens by following rules and listening to their parents and teachers. Pictured is Dallin Chase, Captain Van Chase and Braden Permann. DeAnn Sanders wins local Teacher Feature' KSL Radio and Zions Bank honored DeAnn Sanders, teacher at "Spanish Oaks Elementary, for the "Teacher Feature" program. This program was developed to recognize outstanding teachers who have gone the extra mile, not only in the classroom, but who have also made a significant impact on many young lives. Mrs. Sanders received a beautiful plaque, two season tickets to the Hales Theater. $100 dinner certificate for the elegant La Caille Restaurant and a certificate for an overnight stay at the Anniversary Inn. The nomination letter read: "Mrs. Sanders has to be one of the best and most patient teachers in Utah. My son is in her secondgrade class and was way behind the curve on reading and writing. When the school year started, Nicholas could not read any better than he could when he left kindergarten. His first- grade teacher was great and did a lot. But he was just not able to grasp the concepts. My wife and I tried everything we could over the summer to help him, but it seemed nothing was helping as much as we had hoped, then Mrs. Sanders came along. She has spent a lot of one-onone. time with Nicholas during class reading time. She's spent many hours of her own time trying to bring him along. We've seen • some of the things she does special for him and can't believe what patience she must have to be able to do these things with him over and over again. She is seeing results. The thing that showed us the most that Mrs. Sanders was able to make progress was our son wrote us a letter for the first time on his own last weekend. He gave it to us with the biggest grin on his face. The letter was wonderful! A lot of the words were spelled incorrectly, but phonetically they were spot on. He wrote down how he felt about my wife and I and told us he loved us in his letter. He filled the page with words. We were amazed! At the bottom we saw, 'P.S. Mrs. Sanders is a great teacher.' That one sentence alone is worth the world to us, I-can't believe what she has been able to do and accomplish in such a short amount of time. Mrs. Sanders deserves some recognition. There's no way Nicholas is the DeAnn Sanders only child she has helped. Thanks! Jeff Sanders on a job well Congratulations Mrs. done! Our 6th grade teachers organized the Pep Rally to launch the Direct Writing'Assessment Test that the students will be taking. This test consists of the students writing a persuasive essay where they apply the Six Traits of writing and other literary devices that they have been studying all year. Mrs. Johnson states, "The students are strong writers and their learning curve has been huge. We expect them to score very high because of their preparation and hard work." Good luck to our "Awesome" 6th graders!
