In going on to play baseball at the next level, he'll follow in the footsteps of his older brother Nelson, who pitches for BYU. In addition to pitching at SLCC, Castleberry plans to serve an LDS mission. The Lady Dons played great team basketball and provided balanced scoring. The Lady Dons walked off the floor with a 62-53 win. The Dons relied on stifling defense and fast break offense as SF set a torrid pace in the first quarter. The trio of Nielsen, Redd, and Huntsman racked up 17 of the Dons 20 first quarter points. Lehi struggled against the Dons 3-2 zone and suffered early foul trouble. SF led 20-6 after the first quarter. The Dons where outscored 17-12 in the second period. The Pioneers played a physical second quarter and efficient motion offense. The Dons took their turn getting into foul trouble and were out rebounded by Lehi. The Dons headed to the locker room leading 32-23. The Lady Dons maintained balanced scoring in the third quarter. Brynlie Nielsen provided a big spark with 5 points and 3 rebounds. Johnson, Anderson, and Huntsman were clutch from the free throw line. The officiating was inconsistent and both teams struggled to establish any post play or game rhythm. SF led 45-35 at the end of three quarters. The Lady Dons weathered the foul fest by Lehi. SF scored 2 baskets and sank an impressive 13 points from the free throw line. The Dons balanced scoring was led by Nielsen with 19, Anderson 11, Redd 11, Huntsman 11, Johnson 6, and Emerine CONSISTENCY: A leading scorer for the Dons throughout the season, Erin Redd had 11 against Lehi. 4. The Lady Dons had 28 rebounds, 4 assist, 5 steals, and 4 blocked shots. The Lady Dons host Timpanogos in their final home game Wednesday, Feb. 11. Runners continue to improve Dave Boyack STAFF WRITER 800 meter specialist David Nester continues to shine on the Utah High School Indoor track and field scene. This past Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Utah Olympic Oval, Nester cruised to a near school record of 1:57.56. His time not only puts him within a shade of the 17-year-old record but also puts him into the all-time list of Utah High School indoor boys track athletes. Junior Brent Strong improved his time in the 400m with a personal best 54.66, while Justin Crandall also showed great improvement in the same event with a 52.96. Spanish Fork currently has three boys under the 53-second mark in the 400m. A sign that the 4x400m relay will be a strong event for Spanish Fork once again this year. On the girls' side senior Jenn Youd placed in the top 10 with a season's best 1:03.5 in the girls 400m, and distance runners Ashley Phelps and Bethany Carson run sub-6:00 miles as they continue to improve. Spanish Fork athletes will now take a week off to prepare for the National Indoor Simplot Games Feb. 19-21, 2009 in Pocatello, Idaho. SAM'S PREP OF THE WEEK LandonJohnson Senior Band Senior London Johnson's favorite sports are football and basketball. While he doesn't play either sport for the Dons, he contributes by helping lead the SFHS band between quarters and during timeouts. "He's very loved," said Band Director Bryant Smith. "The band kids love him, and he obviously loves band.... At a game without him there, it's just not the same."
