Salem didn't back down as they went point-for-point against Delta. Hanks finished the game with 17 points andfiveswats. Salem is now 1-1 in region play, as they suffered a 63--44 loss to Juan Diego on Wednesday, Jan. 14. The Skyhawks' next region game will be on the road against the Carbon Dinos, Jan. 21. Lady Skyhawks down Soaring Eagles The Salem Hills girls basketball team had a great start in Region 8 with a big win against Juan Diego at home on Jan. 13, 2009. The Skyhawks out scored the Soaring Eagles 47-39. "Everything just felt right. We were clicking as a team," said Sam Bigler. At the end of the first and beginning of the second quarters the Skyhawks went on a run making the score 16-7. However, the Soaring Eagles fought their way back with some big three-pointers. Going into halftime, the Skyhawks had the lead, 22-18. The third quarter was rough for Salem, with the Skyhawks only scoring eight points. But in the fourth quarter the Skyhawks came back alive to capture the eight-point win. Sam Bigler was the leading scorer with 13, followed by Lyssa Hanks with 10 and Danielle Jones with nine. The key to the Skyhawks' win was great teamwork and ball movement. They allowed 10 turnovers, but had 15 steals and 14 assists.
