Show -NEWS B4 • WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2007 Spanish Fork Coveting what matters most SFJH honors alumnus Sharon Hopkins Glenn Baguley Chris Sheriff Zach Taylor SFHS welcomes new teachers Interviews by Stephen Parry, Shiloh Nelson, Michael Thomas and Steve McVey Glenn Baguley Small engines teacher Glenn Baguley is new to .-Spanish Fork High School . this year. Previously, he taught at Payson High for 21 years. Baguley chose teaching as a career because he had 17 years experience [as an auto mechanic and he wanted to pass his knowledge on to younger generations. In his free time, he likes to work in his woodshop and travel to the Caribbean. His favorite kind of food is Mexican, and his favorite movie is The Midnight Express. Chris Sheriff Officer Chris Sheriff of the Spanish Fork Police Department is one of Spanish Fork High School's newest teachers. Sheriff teaches law enforcement and is the on-campus officer. When asked what he liked most about the school, he said, "I like how the students all show so much school spirit and work together." He said he enjoys his new job and decided to take the three-year position for a bit of change in his career. With his sense of humor '. and teaching ability, Sheriff has already made many friends. "Everybody likes Mr. Sheriff," said SFHS student Spencer Keele. Sharon Hopkins Sharon Hopkins is Spanish Fork New home Newly remodeled 2,350 sq.ft. teaching Women's Choir at Spanish Fork High School. Hopkins got into education because she loves teaching and she loves music, so she put them together. Some of her hobbies include swimming, hiking, skiing, doing anything with her husband, recording vocal music and writing music. At the beginning of the day, Hopkins looks forward to the end of the day and at the end of the day, she looks forward to the next end of the day. She is the only girl of four brothers, three of whom are older and one younger. She attended college in Seattle, Spokane, Idaho, Washington, D.C. and BYU. She graduated five years ago, and has been teaching for four years. Zach Taylor Zach Taylor got into auto body at a young age watching his father do mechanics. He took the course in high school and now loves teaching the things he learned. Taylor grew up in Spanish Fork and loves teaching here. His favorite part about body work is painting and detail. His hobbies consist of all outdoor activities, athletics, and fixing newer wrecked cars. He has a secret talent for singing and is a great handyman. His favorite fix-ups are old 72 Chevy pick-ups. In addition to practicing medicine in Spanish Fork for many years, Ludlow helped found Far West Bank, served in his church, and also served as a term as mayor of Spanish Fork. September students of the month chosen at Spanish Fork Jr. High Scott Carson SFJH Spanish Fork Junior High recently selected their students of the month for September. Gus Snell Gus Snell is a 7th grader and the son of Doug' and Dawn Snell of Spanish Fork. His favorite class is P.E. because it gives him the opportunity to hang out with his friends in an active setting where you never stop moving. His favorite subject is math because working with numbers comes easy for him. Gus is an avid sportsman. He enjoys playing football, baseball, basketball and golf. He also likes to be outdoors where he hunts and fishes. Gus would like to play professional football or baseball someday. He is also interested in pursuing engineering. Gus plays the guitar in his spare time. He has a hunting dog named Tank. Cassidy Oss Cassidy Oss is a 7th grader and the daughter of Rick and Suzette Oss of Salem. She has lots of musical talent and she puts it to good use in the Women's Chorus. She also enjoys her English class, where she is focused on learning the skills necessary to become a good author. Cassidy also enjoys her drama class and being with her friends at school. Reading and writing are favorite pastimes, but Cassidy also plays softball and loves to sew. She hopes to become an author or an actress. Cassidy has a wonderful personality and is dearly loved and appreciated by her family. Alex Minson Alex Minson is an 8th grader and the son of Mark and Keri Minson of Salem. He enjoys school, particularly his English class. One of his favorite pastimes is reading. His favorite books include: Bleachers, the Harry Potter series and Ruby Holler. In addition to his athletics, Alex likes listening to country music and hanging with his friends. If you aspire to make a lot of money, get with Alex because he has a plan for becoming a millionaire! Alex has a "fake dimple" in his right cheek as a result of a slip he took at four years old while trying on shoes. She hates to sit around the house, so she chooses to come to school! Besides being a great student, she likes to be around her friends. Erika will be involved with anything that has to do with music. She loves to play the violin and guitar. She participated in the pit orchestra for last year's school musical. It was a real challenge, but she had a lot of fun. Erika has . some exciting goals in life. She would like to attend a culinary arts school in France and become a chef. If that doesn't work out, she will settle on being a rock star! Erika describes herself as being laid-back with "OCD" moments. She is a mover and an all around awesome person.j,- i - |
