Show August 11, 2011 OBITUARIES James "Cal" Schow Escalante, Utah James Calvin Schow, 79, Escalante, passed away August 4, 2011 in Provo. He was born April 15, 1932 in Escalante to Andrew H and Mildred Twitchell Schow. He married Martha Rae Bailey June 9, 1956 in Evanston, Wyoming. Marriage solemnized January 31, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. Cal was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served in Germany as a crash rescue firefighter. He worked for CB&I as a welder/fitter for 32 years, and for Mark Steel Company for nine years. An active member of the LDS church, serving in two bishoprics and attended the temple regularly. A member and served as president in both the Escalante Lion's Club and Sons of Pioneers. He was an active person who loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting and camping. Cal was a wonderful man who provided for and adored his family. Men like him are few and far between. He will be greatly missed. Survived by his wife, Martha, of Escalante; children: Stephany (Chad) Homer, West Valley; Melloney (Dale) Robins, Scipio; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; children: Calvin Clay, Janine, Andrew, Sheldon, Cory; and six brothers and eight sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Escalante 1st Ward where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Escalante Cemetery with miltiary rites by the Escalante American Legion Post #114. HALE ART GALLERY Lila Margarita Hankins Hammer, known as "Rita" by those she knew and loved, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at age 76. Rita was born on July 9, 1935 in Fayetteville, AR, to Burl and Lila Hankins She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Catherine Hankins Nygaard. Rita graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in History and a teaching certificate. She married A C Hammer on July 11, 1959. They were both active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout their lives together. Rita taught school and later worked for and retired from the State of Washington Welfare Department. Rita is survived by her husband, A.C.; her sister, Ann Hankins Leigh; her children: Lila E Hammer of Roy, Utah; Alicia C. Poole of Castle Rock, WA; Grant M. Hammer of Aztec, NM; Melody A. Connor of Laurel, MD; Catherine N. Fletcher of Cannonville, UT; Rebecca J. Platter of Olympia, WA; and John J. Hammer of Sahuarita, AZ; 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Woodland, Washington on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 5 pm. LEACH - TEBBS Brooks Glenn Leach and Taelyr Shae Tebbs will be married Friday, the 12th of August, 2011. Brooks is the son of Donny & Cyndi Leach and the grandson of Glenn & Barbara Leach and Ann & the late Carl Farnsworth, also the great grandson of Alta Orton, all of Panguitch. Taelyr is the daughter of Tim & Monica Tebbs and the granddaughter of Mike & Margaret Tebbs and Mel & Marlene Miller, also the great granddaughter of Ilene Julander, all of Panguitch. The couple will be living in Cedar City where they will both be attending Southern Utah University. They wanted to surprise their kids with this wedding and they were able to do that. It was a very special ceremony that all were a part of and all enjoyed the time. There wasn't a wedding announcement in order to maintain the surprise, but Carla's kids, Jake and his sister, Christa Pearson are delighted. The newly weds will live in Tropic where Carla and her two kids have lived for the past year. They moved here from St. George. They want all of their friends and family in Bryce Valley Area and Panguitch to know of their marriage. |
