A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumps right in front of the car. The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit is dead. The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry. A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway sees a man crying on the side of the road and pulls over. She steps out of the car and asks the man what's wrong. "I feel terrible, "he explains, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it." The blonde says, " Don 't worry." She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can. She walks over to the limp, dead rabbit, bends down, and sprays the contents onto the rabbit. The rabbit jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road. Ten feet away the rabbit stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again, until he hops out of sight. The man is astonished. He runs over to the woman and demands, "What is in that can? What did you spray on that rabbit?" The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label. It says.. (This is bad!) (You know you could turn the page and not read the punch line....) (Last chance) (OK, here it is) It says, "Hair Spray - Restores life to dead hair, and adds permanent wave." May your troubles be less, may your blessings be more, and may nothing but happiness come through your door! something like this: "It's too cold up here on this mountain," the snake told the young boy. "Won't you carry me down to where it's warmer?" "If I do that you will bite me," said the young man. "I promise I won't bite you. I really just want to be warmer. Won't you please carry me down the mountain?" "Well, okay, if you promise not to bite me." "I promise," said the snake. So the boy picks up the snake and begins to carry him down the mountain. Shortly thereafter, the snake bites the young man. "Ouch! What the heck?! Why did you bite me? You said you wouldn't!" "Oh, but you knew what I was before you picked me up." And so it is with us. Wolves and snakes are all around us. Listen to the promptings of the spirit to avoid getting bitten, yet, at the same time remember Mother Teresa of Calcutta's words, "Each one of them is Jesus in disguise." Seeing the money in my hand, she cried out, "I caught you!" I froze and tried to think of an explanation for why I was putting the money under her pillow instead of the Tooth Fairy. But her next words let me off the hook. "You put that money back!" she said in- Math Class The test I gave my math class covered everything we'd studied all year -fractions, percentages and portions of whole units. But maybe I could have explained things better. To the question "What portion of a foot is six inches?" One student answered, "The toes?" At the Bank I had just finished my dental appointment when I decided to stop at my bank. Barely able to enunciate, I told the teller, "I'm sorry about not speaking more clearly. I've had Novocaine." "You should have used the drive-through," she said. "whyr "Everyone who goes through sounds like you," she explained. Vet Appointment In his younger days our golden retriever, Catcher, often ran away when he had the chance. His veterinarian's office was about a mile down the road and Catcher would usually go there. The office staff knew him and would call me to come pick him up. One day I called the vet to make an appointment for Catcher's yearly vaccine. "Will you be bringing him in yourself," asked the receptionist, "or will he come on his own?" Police Academy My sister felt she was well prepared for her indepth interview with the Police Academy Board who would determine her suitability as a candidate. The first situation they presented to her was: "On routine patrol you see a car traveling at excessive speed, with undue care and attention. You pull it over and discover that the driver is your brother. What do you do?" Without hesitation she replied, "Tell Mom!" She was accepted. Blue Eyes While we were working at a men's clothing store, a customer asked my coworker to help her pick out a tie that would make her husband's blue eyes stand out. "Ma'am," he explained, "any tie will make blue eyes stand out if you tie it tight enough." In addition, Rawson has called for a review team comprised of professionals from both within the organization and from external organizations. A report will be submitted to BLM Utah April 15. "The BLM takes these allegations seriously and is responding to the issues," Rawson said. "Upon conclusion of this review, the team will provide us with its findings and recommendations." The BLM review team will take the findings from the Humane Society of Utah and Salt Lake County Animal Control into account in writing its report. The Center will continue to offer animals for adoption during the review. The facility will remain open to the public and staff will be on hand to answer questions. Some mares are beginning to foal and there may be opportunities for the public to view some of the newborns. Adoptions of the wild horses are available to qualified members of the public. The Salt Lake Wild Horse and Burro Regional Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and one Saturday per month. The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. dressing and mix well. She sometimes also likes to use canned fruit cocktail. Send suggestions to Veda Hale Box 956 Panguitch, Utah or email vedahale@ hotmail.com KEEP MEASLES OUT! (AND OTHER CHILDHOOD DISEASES) April 23-30 is National Infant Immunization Week. The Southwest Utah Public Health Department (SWUPHD) is encouraging parents to make sure their children are up to date on their vaccinations. Recent outbreaks of chickenpox in Iron County and measles in northern Utah are reminders that these contagious illnesses can still pose a threat. "The use of vaccinations has defeated many diseases that used to cause widespread illness and death among infants and children," says Lynn Cardon, an immunizations nurse with the SWUPHD. "Smallpox is gone, polio has largely disappeared, and we have come a long way against measles and other illnesses that are especially hard on little ones. However, we still see outbreaks where someone gets infected overseas and inadvertently spreads it back home among people who are not immunized. " That's the case with recent outbreaks of measles in the Salt Lake area and other parts of the United States. "Vaccination rates plummeted in the mid 1990's after a fraudulent study linking the measles vaccine with autism was released out of England, " says Dave Heaton, SWUPHD Public Information Officer. "Those findings have long since been disproved, but a lot of damage was done in convincing some parents to avoid immunizing their kids. These almost-forgotten diseases make a comeback when they find unprotected parts of our population." Fortunately, many families include vaccination as part of children's healthcare. "Immunizations have come a long way," adds Lynne Cardon. "They are safer than ever and several of the vaccines are combined so children get fewer shots. Caregivers should also be aware that infants aren't able to get fully immunized against whooping cough, measles, and chickenpox until they are 12 months old, so it's important for older kids, parents, and grandparents to get immunized to protect babies in the home." This week, call your healthcare provider or local health department to see if your children are up to date on their immunizations and make an appointment to get caught up.
