Show The Garfield County Insider Page 4 IITC11J,0. j Fl We had some very fine entertainment last week. It started off with the HOPE SHOW CHOIR that preformed at the Stake Center on Tuesday. They brought 30 entertainers that were delightful. They were from the Cedar City Institute and they did 50 performances in five days, eleven the day that they were here. Taylor Bremner sang a solo, boy was he good. The Hope Show went on to Tropic and then to Escalante. They even had time to go hike out to Calf Creek Falls. We had three of the girls stay at our place, and I took them to Henrie's for dinner, where they sang to entertain the staff there. They were real fun young ladies, and they got up at 5:30am and got themselves off, so we could sleep in. We had a Community Family Night, on Wednesday at the High School, it was sponsored by the Southwest Center Prevention Services. The Panguitch Lions Club was on hand to do the cooking and they severed about 300 people, with hotdogs and hamburgers. Elaine Baldwin (Mrs. Republican of Garfield County) and Marc McLemore took the TARs (Teenage Republicans) to the Republican convention in SLC. The youth from Garfield came away with every office in the State organization. State Chairman is Jaylen Gillette, Jaylen Dodds-V.C., Aubry Parkin-Sec., Sydnee Palm- May 13, 2010 er-Treasure and Trichelle Armstrong-web s ite/pub city person. Garfield County TARs have won many National awards. Sad for Senator Bennett not making the ballot, Senator Bennett was responsible for the repairs to the Wide Hollow reservoir in Escalante, when he toured Garfield Co; he made that a priority. Glen and Laura Adams are off to New Mexico to their son Sam's graduation from St. Johns College. The Adam's family raised their sons to be furious readers. When Sam was in elementary school there was a reading contest and I believe Sam read over 100 books during the year, the next student had read 50. I am sure all of this reading was a big help in Sam getting a 32 on his ACT test, one qualification of many that he excelled in to make him a great candidate for many universities. On Thursday May 27th at the Stake Center we will be having a Red Cross blood drive. The time is from 2:00 to 7:00. Please contact Janis or V. Henrie for reservations at 676-8012. Connie Orton gave me the following information. Do you, your parents or siblings have diabetes or high blood pressure or if anyone in your family has kidney disease? If you answered yes to either question you may be at risk for kidney disease and should attend the FREE KIDNEY SCREENING, sponsored by National Kidney Foundation of Utah and Idaho. It will be held at the Stake Center Wednesday May 26th from 2:00 to 6:00. Call 800-869-5277 for an appointment. There are currently 379,010 patients living with dialysis — USA and 1,300 in Utah. 1 in 8 Utahans or 340,000 have chronic kidney disease. Average cost for dialysis is $71,500 per year. Get yourself checked. Prevention is the key. For the graduating seniors and their families, the Graduation Tea will be Sunday May 23rd at the PHS auditorium. Seminary Graduation is that same night, the 23rd, at 7:00pm at the Stake Center. Visit the Quilt Walk Web site at www.quiltwalk.com for more information than you want about the festival. Dear Garfield County Residents, I am very pleased and appreciative to announce my candidacy for Garfield County Commissioner. I would like to share with you my platform. Jobs- Every job in this county is important right now. If elected, I will work hard to insure that we retain the jobs we have. Job creation- I have proven in the private sector, that I have the ability to create jobs. If elected, I will use that experience wisely, in anyway I can, to create jobs in this county. 2. Roads- This issue is extremely important to me. If elected, I will exhaust every effort to protect our access to our public lands. I know that this is a complicated issue, and I will be prepared to meet that challenge. 3. Education- Education is extremely important to me. I understand that as a commissioner there is very little I can do fiscally to help. However, this is what I can and will do if elected: I will continue to support the youth of this county. I will be involved in the activities of each school. All of our children deserve the best education available, regardless of which school they attend in the county. All of the schools in this county are equally important. 4. Volunteer Services- Our volunteer forces within this county affect us in almost everything that we do. They need to know that they are appreciated and that their effort is very important to each community. If elected, I will make it a priority to make sure that their safety and their resources are protected. As an independent business owner for the past 25 years and counting, I have learned many things that I know will help me be a successful Commissioner, if elected. Fiscal responsibility is already part of my everyday life. Your tax dollars are very important to me. I will work hard to make sure that every dollar is used efficiently. If elected, I will maintain an open dialogue with the residents of this county, concerning this issue. If elected, I will be a Commissioner for all of Garfield County, and will work full time to ensure that I have given the tax payers the value of a full time Commissioner. Sincerely, Leland E Pollock-Garfield County Commission candidate by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.
