In Panguitch, I don't often do it, but when someplace else, I often do. I was reminded of it by our good Escalante friend, Harriet Preska. Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to EBRIVAIIIIEWARkg PMM see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. 2. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime. 3. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone. Send suggestions to Veda Hale Box 956 Panguitch, Utah 84759 or email vedahale@yahoo. corn Hand in hand with the Safe Route to School campaign a "Festival of Trees" is being planned for next year and the committee would like you to know so you can plan on entering a tree in the Festival. Sandy Cox and Annette Chynoweth can give you more details if you are interested. The trees will be on sale and display for all to see and they would love a big turnout of the community to help raise the needed funds to provide a safe passage to school for the students up Bryce Way. More details will be coming later. Well Christmas went by so fast it was almost gone before you knew it. What a wonderful time of the year and we even had snow this Christmas. I personally want to thank a Secret Santa out there who helped to make our Christmas so much brighter this year. I have done it before but never had the 12 Days of Christmas done for me and I loved it so much. I eagerly awaited for that doorbell each evening to see what was there. It was fun! ! Thank you folks. Hope everyone out there had a wonderful Christmas and is looking forward to a brighter New Year. It certainly can't be any worse than the one behind us. We wish everyone a wonderful New Year and let's spread the love and caring around to everyone. So many problems in this old world that we can all do our part to make it more pleasant for someone else. In doing that then we have a more pleasant time ourselves. Let's now forget those who are away from home over the holidays and thank them for the dedicated service to our country and the citizens. A special Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Judy, Becca and Kim out there. Lula Moore had a great Christmas Eve party at her home for her family with thirty-two in attendance. Wow. They had good food, lots of visiting, and enjoying each other during this Christmas season. The Young Women of Henrieville did a service project by shoveling snow for people around town. It was great and they had a lot of fun doing it. Congratulations to the following on their new callings. Lonnie Comp ordained an Elder. Kathryn Pollock as the Stake First Counselor in the Primary to replace Janece Pollock who was called as the Primary President in Henrieville. Kami Mangum who was called to be the Stake Young Women's Camp Director. Camp this next year is being planned for August 10th and on. Miles Holm was ordained as a Teacher in the Tropic Ward. Well did you all get you Christmas Calls from your missionary or military person? Gayle Moore said Ryan called down from Montana and he is doing well. Our Grandson Joseph Jensen called from Chile' and is doing very well. I am sure there were other calls but have not heard from anyone yet. J. J. Dunham finally made it home for the Christmas holiday and goes back Jan. 2nd to finish up his military training. He spoke in the Cannonville Ward today along with Darrien Mathews, Kwin Willis, McKay Thompson, and Raphael Morreales. Darrien is the daughter of Daren and Stacy Mathews. Kwin is the son of Kaymar and MaryJean Willis and the grandson of Bonnie Willis. McKay is the son of Joe and Trish Thompson. Raphael Morreales belongs to John and Ramona Morreales. J. J. is the grandson of Anna Dunham. Joseph and Spencer Harman were here for the holidays and they went down to hear the talks of the young people in Cannonville. They are the sons of Robert and Yarlta Harman. Rumor has it that Monte and Rita Twitchell had all of their kids home for the holiday celebration. That is so much fun. Just a reminder that the SENIOR CITIZEN LUNCH is not open until the 5th of January. Have a good week everyone and be sure to call or email with your news. Happy New Year to everyone. the lAuGhiNg pOiNt!! Jogging Shoes Deciding to take up jogging, the middleaged man was astounded by the wide selection of jogging shoes available at the local sports shoe store. While trying on a basic pair of jogging shoe, he noticed a feature and asked the clerk about it. "What's this little pocket thing here on the side for?" "Oh, that's to carry spare change so you can call your wife to come pick you up when you've jogged too far." haws of the Universe Consider these newly discovered laws of the universe... Law of Biomechanics: The severity of any itch is inversely proportional to the reach. Law of Coffee: As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold. Law of Dirty Rugs/Carpets: The chances of an openfaced jelly sandwich of landing face down on a floor covering are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet/rug. Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch. Law of the Result: When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will. Law of the Telephone: When you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal. Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner. Variation Law: If you traffic lanes, the one you were in will start to move faster than the one you are in now. Warm Water Theorem: When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings. Ship's Mess The Chaplain had been assigned to the ship and he noticed how much grief the cooks (Mess Specialists) caught from the crew and how they gave back as much as they got. He talked to the Food Service Officer and decided to talk to the cooks and get them to be more cheerful when they served the meals to the sailors coming down the line. "A smile, a cheerful comment, and a willingness to serve, will all reap great benefits," he told them. After his pep talk the Food Service Officer and the Chaplain stood back and watched the food being served. A new sailor aboard walked down the line but he didn't like anything he saw so he just carried his tray down the line till he got to the desert section. He picked up a saucer containing a large piece of chocolate cake. The Mess Specialist looked at him, "Is that all you're gonna eat," he asked. Freckles An elderly woman and her little grandson, whose face was sprinkled with bright freckles, spent the day at the zoo. Lots of children were waiting in line to get their cheeks painted by a local artist who was decorating them with tiger paws. "You've got so many freckles, there's no place to paint!" a girl in the line said to the little fella. Embarrassed, the little boy dropped his head. His grandmother knelt down next to him. "I love your freckles. When I was a little girl I always wanted freckles, she said, while tracing her finger across the child's cheek. "Freckles are beautiful!" The boy looked up, "Really?" "Of course," said the grandmother. "Why, just name me one thing that's prettier than freckles." The little boy thought for a moment, peered intensely into his grandma's face, and softly whispered, "Wrinkles." The sailor said, "Yeah, the rest of it don't look too appetizing." The Mess Specialist smiled and said, "Well, in that case would you like two pieces of cake?" The Chaplain smiled and nudged the Food Service Officer in the ribs, "I told you my talk did them some good." The kid said, "Yeah, man, I'd appreciate it." The cook leaned over and cut the piece of cake on the tray in half. |
