They hope their 11 grandchildren will continue the tradition of 4-H activities. Tracy says "We have always been involved in 4-H. 4-H is a great way to learn and grow as a family and individuals." 4-H Spotlight Award: These families and clubs have been the first week of the month in the newspaper. October's spotlight went to Bryan and Jennifer Bremner Family, November was the Sarah and Daniel Rose Family, and December's spotlight went to the Boulder Broncs 4-H Club. 4-H Leader Pins: Leaders are recognized in five year increments. This year Melanie Heaton was recognized for five years of service. 4-H Outstanding Leaders: Angela Sheffer has served in 4-H for more than 25 years. Actually, we're not sure how many years, but it's been a long time. Angie served as 4-H leader last year for the Cooks of Swan Liberty 4-H Club. They did more than cooking a put several things in the fair, including a crocheted afghan where each member of the club completed a square. The club members wanted to do an activity that was more than the club families could afford, so Angela went to work with her members, having bake sales at events like the soccer games, the powwow.. . Sayings from Angela: "The greatest reward she gets in 4-H is seeing the kids become self sufficient, seeing the kids love it and want to give back. The spark in the kids eyes of knowing they know how to do something Honesty, Integrity & Professionalism Guaranteed! on the IT'S 2010! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? Well ready or not a new year is here. The new 4-H year is here too. Well the 4-H year has already begun. It started October 1st (not January 1st) and ends September 30th. Many youth interested in 4-H enroll as a new calendar year starts and that works. The main idea is to enroll or reenroll in 4-H. Did you know 4-H is all year long not just in the summer? It is, you can be doing 4-H right now. We have many clubs getting their enrollment forms in and already completing club requirements. There have been a change at the State 4-H level regarding eligibility for 4-H. The new rule is: 4-H ages and grades are based on the 4-H year, which begins October 1 and ends September 30. Categories are determined by a youths age and grade on October 1, the beginning of the 4-H year. • Qualifying 4-H EFNEP programs may serve youth three years and older. • Cloverbud 4-H Members: K - grade two (K-2) • Junior members: Grades three — five (3-5) and at least 8 years old as of October 1. • Intermediate 4-H Members: Grades six — eight (6-8) • Senior 4-H Members: Grades nine — twelve (9-12) Large animal, shooting sports, and some other projects require youth to be in 3rd — 12th grades and at least 8 years of age on October 1, the beginning of the 4-H year. Please see the age rules under each specific project area. http:// utah4h.org/htm/about-4-h/4-h-age-policy Be sure to share your talents with youth! Teach youth what you know how to do! Can you cook, sew, raise animals, crochet, knit, paint, draw, dance, collect, scrapbook. Or are you knowledgeable about science, technology, engineering, space, earth, forestry, public speaking, healthy living, or citizenship. Get involved in 4-H, become a 4-H Leader and share your talents with youth. There is a State Leadermete (leader training) March 31-April 2, for those interested early bird registration is Jan 1st -Feb 15th, contact our office for more information 676-1113. Just a little reminder, to be a 4-H club one must fill out enrollment forms and meet for a minimum of six project hours. Remember 4-H is about Leadership so be sure to give your 4-H youth leadership opportunities. We would like to continue in recognizing the 4-H families and clubs from our area. This recognition is called the "4-H Spotlight Award". At the beginning of each month a 4-H Club or FamGarfield County ily Club is selected. Lyman 435-826-4088. ILOYA,t, .11=1..1 %10 wa ■ By Mack Oetting The Lady Bobcats went to Bryce Valley Tuesday to play the always tough Bryce Valley Mustangs. The Bobcats were paced by Kalani Norris with 18 points, 15 in the first half. Chelsie Barney picked up the team in the second half when she scored all 13 of her points. Bryce Valley was led by Kaylea Shakespear with 9 points. The Lady Cats held the Mustangs to 25 points, with tenacious defensive play. The Ladies won 38-25. This was only the Mustangs second loss of the season, also losing to the #1 Piute team. Both of our Bobcat teams will be off for the Christmas Holidays. The girls will host the States #1 team, the Piute Thunderbirds on January 2nd. Coach Barney has been really impressed with the Bobcats Junior Varsity team, as they have won their last 5 games against bigger and stronger opponents. The Bryce Valley gym had a redo, compliments of their PTO. Those Mustangs painted on each ends of the court really sets the gym off nicely. The Boys also have a game on January 2, at Bryce Valley, it should be a great game, I believe both teams are undefeated in league play. Hunter Education Class There will be a traditional Hunter Education class offered at the Wayne High School beginning January 11th at 3:30 PM. Classes will be on the following dates; January 11th,13th,19th,21st and 25th. All classes will be taught at the Wayne High School at 3:30 pm. The qualification shoot will be on January 23rd at the Bicknell Rifle Range at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in taking the Hunter Education course that cannot attend the classes at the high school is invited to do the coursework online at www.ihea.com (International Hunter Education Association). After locating the website follow the links for "Hunter Education". There is a lot of reading associated with the online course and you must complete and print the quizzes at the end of each chapter and bring them with you to a field day. There are field days held around the state at different dates and times published on the DWR website www.wildlife.utah. gov. We will hold a field day at the Bicknell rifle range on January 23rd beginning at 1:00 pm. It is not necessary to pre-register for the Course at the high school but you must visit Royal's Market in Loa and purchase a Hunter Education Voucher ($10) and bring it with you to class. After successfully completing the course your voucher will be validated and become your small game hunting license for the following year. Those who take the online course must also purchase a voucher to bring with them to the field day. If you are planning to attend the field day on January 23rd please register with Mark Elmer at 435-425-3551 or Jim Lamb at 435-8362413. I think that I could do it good, no matter what you say. As far as foreign policy goes, I claim I am no dunce. I've been to Minnesota twiceand Tijuana once. Those silly wars are bothersome. We've taken such a beating, But I could cope, 'cause I've attended some water-user meetings. As far as budgetary stuff, things could be kind of stormy, But there's three trillion bucks to spend! My wife could do that for me. It would be neat to buzz around the world on Air Force One. The White House has a bowling alley. That there would be fun. I think that being President is something I'd be terrific at. I could use the health insurance, and I have a birth certifficat. Some say Obama doesn't, but heck, I could have sworn, Anyone with half an eye could see that he'd been born. Thing of it is, I'm a liberal, so Lieberman would squeak Against me, if he was play-acting Republican that week. Those who completed a 4-H project last year (20082009) were recognized and received participation award in 4-H. We also have special awards that are given during the awards program. Friend of 4-H: A Friend of 4-H is a business or individual who has served or donated to the County 4-H program.
