Your friend and neighbor, Denny Orton ~ LADY BOBCATS FALL TO MUSTANGS AND MOQUIS Thursday's contest at Bryce Valley was an encouraging experience for the Lady Cats as they led the game deep into the 4th quarter, but the Lady Mustangs defense stiffened and held the Cats to only one field goal in the quarter to gain the 39 to 32 win. Hailey Orton led all scorers with 18 points and Karrisa Shakespear was high for Bryce Valley with 14. The loss to a determined and talented Escalante squad, Saturday once more proved the need of a more balanced scoring attack for the Cats. In the first half Panguitch put up 21 points on the board, 19 by just two players. Less than a minute into the 3rd quarter, Hailey Orton went down with an ankle injury and without her the Moqui defense allowed the Cats only 3 points for the entire quarter. Escalante led by as much as 12 points when Orton hobbled back onto the floor in the final stanza, and the Bobcats went on a small run to narrow the margin, but the Moqui's domination on the boards and accurate shooting were too much for the Cats to overcome in the 46 to 43 loss. Panguitch's next home game will be with Valley on January 26. BOBCATS IMPROVE TO 9 AND 3 In nature, it's a given that if a Bobcat and a Tiger tangled, the Bobcat would come out on the short end of the fray. Not so on a basketball court, as the Milford Tigers invaded the Bobcat's lair and were treated to an 85 to 40 mauling by the Cats. All thirteen Bobcats ended up with playing time, and II of the squad made it into the scoring column. Brady Barney had a hot hand from three point range, sinking 4 and leading the team with 16 points. Cameron Leach racked up 13 with 9 rebounds and Josh Bateman hit the 13 mark also.Trac Norris chipped in with 11 and Tyler Pollock 8. The players off the bench out scored Milford in the final 8 minutes, 14 to 11. Eric Frandsen tallied 6, Jon Ricketts 5 with 5 rebounds, Kaz Pollock had 5 and 5 boards, and Anders Humphries dropped in a pair of buckets. Trevor Peterson pumped in a 3 pointer and Brian Satter had 2 points and 3 rebounds to round out the scoring. Earlier this season, in a preseason game with Rich, Coach Clint Barney stated, "the team had showed up but forgot to bring their offense!" Well they must have located that offense lately, for in the last three contests the Bobcats have outscored their opponents by a 99 point total. Friday's game with Wayne was never in doubt as the Cats held the Badgers to 4 second quarter points enroute to a 72 to 48 victory. Josh Bateman led all scorers with 19, Cameron Leach racked up a doubledouble, with 18pointsand 10 rebounds, and Brady Barney pumped in 15. Trac Norris had 14 and point guard Tyler Pollock with 6. Panguitch now stands at 4 and 1 in Region and 9 and 3 overall. The Bobcats's next home game will be with defending State Champion Escalante on January 19.
