I even got to shovel a little off our driveway. I was beginning to wonder if I would get to do this and I needed to know if I would be able to handle it. The two inches I could manage, but if we get the big one, I may have to call on the grandchildren. Our Lions club officially took us into the Christmas Season with their annual Christmas Party last Thursday evening. On the 16th between 40 and 50 Lions Club members and guests met at the home of Mac & Pat Oetting to usher in the season with the kind of dinner that the health experts tell us to avoid. Everyone present enjoyed a delicious meal of roast beef, baked ham, scalloped potatoes(without sour cream), hot rolls, vegetables, salads, and desert(Pie,cake, cookies, cream puffs) and their was plenty of everything. Early arrivers started things rolling with hot spiced cider, chips and dips. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening. I was unable to get an accurate count because some of the members and guests were always on the move and everytime I tried to get a count I came up with a different number. It was the first time many of those present had ever been in Mac's & Pat's home and they w*ere 'home viewing' between eating and visiting. Our club was honored by having our present District Governor, Mary Ivory & her husband, Ron Ivory from Fountain Green, Utah. Ron is a PDG (Past District Governor). Two other special guests were PDG Mark Nelson and his wife, Retta from Cedar City. We have invited Mark and his wife to our Christmas Party every year since he was elected to the position of District Governor andT believe he has beeen able to attend most of them. They both like to visit with the Panguitch Lions Club members. Lions Phil & Pamela Norton made it-home in time for the party after spending several weeks on a cruise ship and touring Spain by automobile. Pam said she sent me an e-mail giving some of the highlights of their vacation, but something went haywire somewhere because when I read my mail there was nothing. I tried to call Pam but no one answered so I will havew to get this for next week. I heard her telling Bob Smith about the trip and it sounded like they had a very interesting and enjoyable time. At our November meeting (We only meet once a month during during daylight saving time months) we voted to give Pat Oetting our annual contribution of $500.00 for our Sub for Santa project and we also voted to individually donate to this project instead of exchanging gifts. Pat is the Chairman of this Lions project and with the help of other club members she does an excellent job of making sure that "No Child is Left Behind" without being visited by Santa Claus. She coordinates our project with the Relief Society Presidencies of our four wards and other organizations to make sure that no one is overlooked. Pat said that last year over 100 youngsters were visited through this project and so far this year she has a list of 75 with more requests coming in all the time. If the list exceeds .the finances, Pat knows she-can come to the club for more funds, but with her shopping and management techniques, she has never had to do this. Ardith Davis is glad to be back home in her 'candy kitchen' after spending a month in California and Nevada with her three daughters, Debra, Karen & Michelle. She enjoyed Thanksgiving with them and extended her visit to greet a new great grandchild which, was due November 28th. The day came and went and no baby. This was the first child for her grand daughter, Shadlie Kensrue, so she decided to stay until the baby arrived but finally had to leave for home on the 4th of December because she had promised Bishop Brett Taylor that she would have some small boxes of chocolates ready as gifts at our 4th Ward Relief Society Christmas Party. Since Ardith's birthday is the 6th of December, everyone was now hoping that the new baby would arrive on Ardith's birthday but she received word that 'Sailor Ardith Kensrue1 arrived on December 7th, her Great Aunt Winona Sevy's birthday. Tim and Debra Buehner are planning on spending their first Christmas in their Panguitch horne(the Jim & Francis Daly home)this year. They want to have a big family dinner on Christmas Day(which will probably include Evalyn & I since Debbie.is my niece. More of Ardith's children are coming 'home' for New Year's just to have home made ice cream and play cards with Uncle Earl (their words, not mine). I predicted that someone would be ice fishing on the lake by the time last weeks article came out. My grandson, Mitchel Moore, told me that when he and Kirsten came from snow boarding at Brian Head, they saw a fisherman with fish laying on the ice, but he was not too far from shore. I am still going to wait until I get reports of large groups on the ice before I call Jim Clarke and tell him it's time to start.
