Show Page 7 OCTOBER 12,2006 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER Community Mortgage by Earl Roe wearlroe@yahoo.com • 676-2376 The Fall colors are disappearing as rapidly as they appeared. I received a report that they are all gone at the higher elevations. I am still surprised at the number of trees here in town that are still green. Evalyn and I rode around checking on the colors and a question came to my mind that should jog the memories of some of the long time, long ago residents. How many of you can remember the huge old cottonwood that stood on Ira and Dinar Clark's corner? (200 South, 100 West) This old cottonwood was the first tree to lose it's leaves in the Fall and the last to get new leaves in the Spring. We lived a block South of it and knew when it's leaves started to turn we would soon be back in school which started in September in those days. The old tree was dead when it was cut down and I believe they counted the growth rings to get it's age, but I am not sure; however I would bet that it was there when Panguitch was settled as it was growing where part of the sidewalk should have been. I really expected to see a little snow on Pole Hollow Ridge after this last storm or at least some on the peaks East and West of town, but all I saw was a little on the high peak North of here and it was gone in a short time. (Readers— Is this the peak that is known as Mt. Belnap?) I hope our next seasonal landscape scene is a thick blanket of snow. It would not have been unusual to have had one by now. I apologize to Ted Owens for not telling this when he gave me the information, but Steve Marshall did not think it was news worthy, but since then I have gotten a different slant on the event so I am reporting it over Steve's protest. Two or three weeks ago Steve decided to get in the swimming portion of the Triathalon in which he participates. Ted tried to talk him out of it because it was windy and the waves were quite high but Steve decided it was now before, the water got any colder (47 degrees at the time) so he entered the water from the North shore at the Rustic Lodge boat ramp and swam across LENDER "Giving You A Better Option For Your Mortgage Needs" Free Prequalifications - Give us a call. • Construction Loans •Lot Loans • Purchases • Refinance - Interest Only Loans - Investment and 2nd Homes - Home Improvement Loans -100% Financing Wayne Ott 435-590-6082 Sherrell Ott 435-679-8671 A6 MARKET NEWS Receipts: 1,578.
