Just as I was deciding that the only good things I could say about our long, hot, dry spell were that it has really been a boost to our Lions Club Recycling Project and the resulting wildfires Southwest of us gave us some beautiful sunsets. (I hope most of you saw the one a week ago last Tuesday (June 17th). It was beautiful! The rain didn't last long but it was a real 'gully digger' and according to my 'official' gallon can rain gauge, we received around an inch of moisture. It kind of reminded me of the news that comes through the knothole to my side of the fence. For weeks it is scanty or non existant then all of a sudden I get a regular cloudburst like I got this past week. While I am on the subject of rain, two other Rains had an interesting (Grandpa & Grandma) weekend during our Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally and Motorcycle Rally. Reinje & Benj Rains had three of their grandchildren staying with them during our balloon rally. Narissa, Tyler & Ashley Keck came from Pleasant Grove, Utah to stay with grandma & grandpa to enjoy the many activities going on during the festival and really enjoyed dancing to the bands playing at the intersection of Main & Center the evening of the Balloon Glow. Tyler said he thought the 'funnest' thing was getting dunked at the Dunking Machine. Tyler was able to talk Clint Pollock into letting him take his place on the dunking seat. (Clint, a deputy sheriff, had volunteered to occupy the dunking seat but after several dunkings, a drop in temperature, and a cool breeze, he was willing to share all this 'fun' with some of the younger folks who wanted their turn. (An interesting note—I was told that one young lady stepped up to the throwing line while Clint was on the seat and repeatedly tried to throw the ball through the hole to trip the trigger. She was finally able to do this and tripped the seat to dunk him. When asked why she was so determined to do this, she replied that Clint had given her a ticket some time prior and this was her way paying him back. If there was a charge for each throw, it probably cost her more to have her revenge than the cost of the ticket.) Gary & Carla Cooper recently re-, turned from a rolindtrip flight to Wash-. JULY 6,2006 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER ington D.C. where they had been to see their son, Tyler, graduate from George Mason University, and having passed the bar exam, leceive his degree in Law. Except for the years in Chile where he served a mission, Tyler has spent his entire life (after the first 5 yrs.) going to school to achieve this goal. He was immediately "snapped up" by Senator Bennett to work in his office helping him with issues affecting Utah. Tyler was happy (and flattered) to be be chosen by Senator Bennett and considers him to be a shining example of what a Senator should be. As one of Tylers teachers, I want him to know I am proud of him and hope that I added something to his education that helped him achieve this goal. I wondered what had happened to my "over the back fence neighbors", Josh & Mandy Soper, but didn't give it too much thought because young folks are always on the move. They had lived in the small "Grandma Houston" home across the street North from the old South Ward Church and after being gone for quite a length of time, I noticed that they were back so when I saw Josh working on the former Bill Brown home I stopped to find out what was going on only to learn that they had bought and sold twice andnow owned the Bill Brown home and had moved back to become my neighbor again while he did some remodeling and then will become members of the Second Ward. We do not like to see them leave the Fourth Ward but are glad they are still in Panguitch. Descendents of Chester (Ches) & Pearl Henrie gathered at our City Park on July 1st for a family reunion. Ches and Pearl had six children;—Dora, Torild, Leslie, Arvil, Roma, & Archie, all who have joined their parents in Heaven. The children of Clark & Dora (Henrie) Veater;—Annie Sorenson, Terre Hadeen, Maurine Veater, Arva Day, & Jimmy Veater were in charge of this years reunion. The families of all of Ches & Pearls six children were represented at the reunion either by children, grand children, or great grandchildren. There were around 50 family members present and they planned to spend the weekend enjoying good food, swapping stories, singing, dancing and meeting and visiting old friends here in Panguitch. Only two family members still live here, Norman Henrie and Tammy Houston (Ryan's Houston's wife.) A personal note—Pearl taught both Evalyn & I (not as a couple) dancing back when they used to have dancing contests in MIA. Evalyn even made it to Saltair where they held the State Meet. Evalyn and Archie used to tap dance as a team while in High School and Roma was one- of the older girls who VEDA HALE STUDIO AND GALLERY ORIGINALS AND PAINTS ALSO FEATUREING OTHER NOTED LOCAL ARTISTS V/ALLACE LEE, LYNN GRIFFIN, RANDSOM GTFENS VALERIE ORELEMANN, ELODIE MCGUIRK, NEUCILE VARDLEV 6 3 N. My sister, Ardith Davis, had a full house for our balloon/motorcycle rally. Her daughters, Janet (Springville, Utah) & Debra (Las Vegas; her grand daughters, Rachelle (American Fork, Ut.) and her 3 children; and Adrienne (American Fork) and her 2 children along with the husbands enjoyed all of the activities that were part of the festival. They love Panguitch and were intrigued by all of our 'old red brick* homes, a couple of which they would like to buy. The thing that amazed them the most was the number of stars we have in our sky. (They even had me run up to give them a short star class.) They did not know if they should believe me when I told them they had the very same number of stars overhead in Las Vegas.
